AUG 10 – A newly-born baby boy who was stolen within two hours from the labor room of DHQ Hospital in Okara was recovered from a local Zamindar’s house whose wife insisted to police he was her child.
The affected father with the help of the Okara police (PS – A Division) managed to recover his stolen baby-boy after being refused help by the hospital’s Medical Superintendent.
The incident took place last week on Tuesday Aug 4 with the high-drama reaching its peak with the recovery of the child from a Zamindar’s house on Sunday August 9.
The baby-snatcher woman Nasreen was arrested on the day of the incident when the stolen baby-boy’s father Arshad Adil (a retired army soldier) led the police to her place after having succeeded to identify and locate her through his own efforts.
Arshad Adil (retired army soldier) had asked the Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital Mohammad Nazeer to help him identify the thief by viewing the labor room’s security video camera recording. But the MS refused on the ground that the security camera did not operate that day as the operator was not available.
Adil did not give up and decided to search for his child all by himself.
His efforts bore fruition when he found tat the van driver who had given the baby-snatcher the ride was coincidently a relative of his. With his relative’s help he managed to locate Nasreen whereabouts and reached her home in Mohalah Khalil Abad – a neighborhood in Depalpur.

Upon confronting her, the baby-snatcher Nasreen told Adil that she had sold his baby-son to Abdullah thekedar (a construction contractor) for Rs20,000. Upon more interrogation, she also told Adil hat she had purchased the baby from the labor room nurse at the DHQ Hospital for Rs5000.
Both Nasreen and the nurse have been taken into police custody by the Okara police who suspect they may be part of a bigger gang of baby-snatchers with connections to influential people.
Nasreen has also confessed to having kidnapped a three-year-old girl six months back.
Further investigation by the police revealed that the newly-born baby-boy was sold by the thekedar to Rana Hasan – an influential zamindar of Depalpur for a sum of Rs2.5 lakhs.
When Okara police reached the said Zamindar’s dera, the Zamindar and his wife resisted police efforts to recover the stolen baby-boy. The suspects also called up for help some 40 to 50 carloads of supporters.
Zamindar’s wife insisted the baby-boy was her’s. The couple have two daughters and no son.
Okara police then called up for backup from nearby Depalpur police station as well as Hujra police station and finally managed to recover the baby from the influential couple.
Zamindar’s wife was taken into custody as she claimed the child was her’s. She was asked by police personnel at the police station to breast-feed the baby. Interestingly, the baby-boy refused to be breast-fed by the ‘mother’.
Ali Abbas Khokar (MPA-PML-N) later visited the jail to vouch for Zamindar wife’s innocence and to have her released from the lockup but the police refused on the grounds that the lady had already accepted her guilt and would remain in police remand until formal charges are filed.
Adil is happy that he was able to recover his kidnapped baby-boy but is upset at the GHQ Medical Superintendant who refused to cooperate when he asked him to view the security camera recording of the labor room. He wants formal investigation.
