Model Viveka Babajee, one of the most familiar and beautiful faces on the Indian fashion scene, committed suicide late on the night of June 25. The 37-year-old Viveka hanged herself at her home in the Bandra suburb of Mumbai. The reason behind her taking this extreme step is not known, and the case is being investigated by the Mumbai police.

The news has led to shock in Bollywood too. Priyanka Chopra, a former model and Miss World, posted on her Twitter account, “Just heard about Viveka Babajee’s suicide! I’m in shock! I was a baby model right after Miss India. Like at 17..I remember doing so many shows with her n each time I saw her..she took my breath away.”
Priyanka added, "I guess no one will understand the pain that drove her to take such a drastic step..I certainly don’t!! RIP Viveka!!
She continued, “A lotta people r sayin..oh the glamour business etc. But trust me..I’m an outsider..it’s a super tough job no denying but it can happen 2 anyone.”
Dia Mirza wrote, “Viveka was 1 of the nicest ppl. Kind, helpful, warm & friendly. I can still c her jiving w/ a smile & free spirit…RIP Viveka”
Vivek Oberoi added, “R.I.P. Viveka Babajee…really sad that she took her own life 
May god give her the peace and solace she was looking for and give her family the strength to cope with this untimely tragedy.”
