Girl is a legal US resident who is neither a citizen nor a permanent/nonpermanent alien.
Guy is a permanent resident alien almost applying for citizenship.
Both want to get married right after the guy applies for his citizenship. Ofcourse the waiting period for a greencard holder’s spouse is much longer than a citizen’s spouse. Now the guy applies for the girls paperwork right after they get married, he has applied for his citizenship but not gotten it yet. The guy gets his citizenship in lets say 6 months after the marraige. Can he update the girls case at that point and switch her status to spouse of a citizen as opposed to a green card holder or not?
Phew. If u don;t understand the question please just read it again. If i can understand what I wrote so can u.
I say this because my father applied for my elder brother's immigration based on his green card, but when he got his citizenship, he contacted the local INS office and they updated the application along with my brother's status as married, which didn't help the situation much. Yeah, if you didn't understand it, read it again. :-P
DOes that help expedite the case or not? Is the waiting period reduced after the update?
ps. FG and Mehnaz the only travelling in this thread has been from general to travel forum. There is no travel or tourism in the scenario presented. Ullus
Yes i would think it expedites it. My cousins and mamoo applied for their wives as greencard holders, but "changed" the status as soon as they got their citizenship which put the case in a faster queau.
FF on your ps hahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahah
Lusi, his case is still in a limbo. Most probably his work people will get his application for green card processed before the one from Dad will make it through.
And it should make a difference or in other words expedite the process.
