its dumb and not dump … and weight is a class … so basically its to even things out between boxer … for example if a huge guy like dave haye takes on imran khan whoz a feather weight … the competition is not really fair … so in order to even it out they fight with in weight classes so its more of an even competition … the weight classes are given on this website

In most combat sports you will fight someone of the same weight as yourself so the fight is based on technical skill and not size.
