annoying uncles..

okay my mamu jan was like sooo annoying when i went to pakistan from canada this time.. he was like trying talking to me in english (and u won’t wanna know how was THAT like) and when i shot back in urdu he was like “so u didn’t speak english over there”.. it got soo friggin stupid sometimes.. mami used to say that he only did this to tease us and he wasn’t actually that obsessed with westernism (what should i believe??)..
however he used to make my cousin try to talk in english and liked to take us out to places like KFC etc. even though i’d better prefer some good food in traditional nehari outlets or stuff like that.. he’s a college teacher in karachi himself and then he was planning to come to canada or what for some reason. no offense but he acted kind of stuck-up quite a many times (hey no makin’ fun of no one okay?)

and one day i was in a room alone with him and decided to talk in english so at least that empty space he has gets “filled up” somehow. he told me that he liked understanding other cultures and that’s why he’d like to know why we lived in canada and what it is like living over there.. i told him everything i knew although i tried to guard the conversation as closely as i could.

and my chotay mamu was also sometimes extremely irritating.. i was watching a very suspenseful drama on TV and he came home from office and he didn’t perk up or anything so i forgot to say salam, and he’d been nagging me for that many times since that by teasing me with stuff “wahan ja kay battamiz ho gaya” etc. (even though i wasn’t the only one in the room who didn’t say salam)..

and then my relatives (esp. the elder ones) over there had been teasing me over that “larka bahar nahi nikalta” stereotype.. which really pissed me:mad: (although part of the reason was my mom, but still–).. it’s not like i’m asking them to fill my shoes or anything like that so can’t they just stop theis leecharpan??

SO DON’T YOU GUPPIES SOMETIMES WONDER THAT OUR PEOPLE SOMETIMES GET A BIT NOSY.. WELL I SOMETIMES DO

P.S. GOD FORGIVE MY ILL MANNERS AND HOPE I WON’T DO SO AGAIN

Re: annoying uncles..

lol yeah, somtime people do that in pakistan i have been through the same situation, But i don't care.

hahahah ABCD's.. their so much fun.. especially when they're out of their element in desiland surrounded by regular desis..

Re: annoying uncles..

hey bud i've been born and raised in dubai, came 2 n. america when i was 11.. and i've been like visiting pakistan for almost every year.. now as ur name says ur an ABCD you schmuck

Re: annoying uncles..

Don't stay with your relatives, stay at ur own house. I never stay with my relatives when i visit Pak. Just visit them and thats all, so u don't have to put up with such behavior.

Re: annoying uncles..

I can't exactly relate to your experience but I went to a wedding
in a village while visiting pakistan recently, and all these woman and kids
would gather around me and my daughter and just stand there and stare at us. My daughet 4 at the time would start crying and the host would come and
tell em off. On top of everything I didn't even speak their language.

Ps: no offense to anyone belonging to a village.

Re: annoying uncles..

people get on your nerves at times

Re: annoying uncles..

dubai america same thing kiddo.. if someone born and raised in Pakistan made almost-annual visits to the USA, he’d become an American? :hehe:

Re: annoying uncles..

HELL0000u u schmuck >> dubai, america same thing? u sure u don’t need neurosurgery? in dubai the majority of the ppl are desi (they don’t give citizenship so very few nationals).. and in dubai u never feel the need to change out of ur salwar khameez when going outside or speak ur language out loud or telling anyone “i am originally from pakistan?”

by the way someone who makes almost-annual visits to the USA would at least know how to deal with the ppl over there.. so there’s a different case with me right here… so long you ABCD

Re: annoying uncles..

:hehe: i’m having more fun than your uncles..

Re: annoying uncles..

^^ huh :bummer:? Anyway any more comments on this topic?

Re: annoying uncles..

retroguy, ppl like to pick on others. In pakistan if tehre are 3 guys talking I can bet that 2 of them have ganged up and are picking on the third one.

so u know, fire back. ask dumb questions, put them on the spot. do some of that back and forth sparring, when they realize that you are not an easy target, they will back off a lot.

Re: annoying uncles..

^^ Yea… nice advice. But the problem is I’ll have no one who’ll agree with me. The ppl in Pak are so cliched, many don’t know how to stay “in the swing”, they’ll either go too far trying to be “maadern” or be too “rivayati” to the point of being annoying. Even worse, they’ll try to copy off the “maadernness” of the West :bummer: yet keep up the annoying customs of their so-called “rivayat” < My case was somewhat similar to this.

Re: annoying uncles..

thats desis for u in general
