We have two squirrels that keep running around on the roof of our house and they are driving me completely insane!!! Every time I hear them on the roof I run outside to shooo them away and some how they are gone by the time I get outside. There are these huge trees close to our house and we’ve trimmed the branches but still these pests get on the roof.
I’m afraid they’ll eat away at the shingles and get into the attic and finally into the house and scare the hell out of me.
I searched on the web to find a way to get rid of them but have not found one site to help me:teary1: .
dear mallika, i know what it feels when you have unwanted free tenants.
but believe me there is nothing much you can do about these pests.
they are probablyin your attic. thats what they do in winter. they will only leave in summer. unles you want to call in professionals. they are going to charge quite a lot of money.
this year when winter was over my son and i vacummed the whole attic and dusted a powder called 'critter ridder' , but they are back again. it seems they dont like pepper or even urine of wolves but i have noty tried that. they also dont like noise.
if you are very sure they are not in the attic but outside then it would be a good idea to checkany holes they might get into to come in. patch it up. good luck
legally speaking you are not supposed to kill any racoon or squirrel. you can frighten them away and patch up any hole . further if you do happen to poison them and they die there in the attic , the smell its going to create in your house. not good. .. you could try trapping them in cages. let me know if anyone has success.
^Honestly I don't think I can use the poison because i'm the kind of person that is scared of killing a bug so I really don't think I can handle the whole dead squirrel thing.
Anyways, I think i'll just make sure that we patch up any cracks that might exist and make sure the squirrels aren't in the attic doing any more damage.
Maybe i'll put a scarecrow on my roof :D. Oh well, thanks for the suggestions everybody....i'll see what else I can do.
Be careful, get someone to help you Insha'ALLAH, also if there are branches nearby then you could cut them so that the squirrals cant get onto the roof! :)
These repellants really do work. Put some on your roof and the squirrels wont like it there anymore. It doesnt hurt them or you, it just keeps them away.
Thats only one site that sells these repellants, even your local garden store should carry some sort of repellant.
I know firsthand how much damage these little creatures can cause…one went down our chimney, no one was home and the poor thing just got hysterical trying to get out. Destroyed lotsa breakables and chewed wood trim around windows. ack
But again, if you make use of the repellants, they will not venture where you dont want them.
I actually love to watch them frolic around. My husband with his beautiful accent, calls them “squiddles” and my boys call them “squeals”…they are a very entertaining lot. esp when the doggies get a whiff that one is nearby!
well i remember a co-worker telling me how she used red pepper flakes to deter squirrels and the lil rodents absolutely hated it. she said she used the jamaican cayenne pepper, the hottest ones, and it helped a lot. apparently most squirrel deterrents have some amount of capsicum/pepper in them. try it!
^That's right ! I use chili flakes to keep chipmunks out of my garden and last year my husband rubbed the birdfeeder string with the ends of some chilis and the squirrels stayed off of it for quite a while.
Don't poison it. We had a raccoon die in our crawl space under the house once and it took the longest time before we figured out where the smell was coming from. We were ready to tear up the floors!
If non of the above works try talking to the squirrels, explain the situation and that you would like them to stop making so much noise! You never know you might end up becoming good friends! :)
Squirrels are so cute creatures...Just let them live wherever they are. Fix a feeding table outside your house and feed them with bread crumbs..sometimes you should keep a roasted papad. Squirrel will sit on its hind legs and use both hands to lift it munch on it...crunch crunch.
Keep your camera ready and you have excellent opportunity to take photos.
Itna hungama khada karne ki kya zaroorat hai. I you feed them regularly and properly, they can be the best pets. Are you sure they are being treated well.
Like you they are also fond of nuts, hazelnuts, cracked walnuts and almonds and groundnuts.
