ok this would be a slight getting my ghussa out thread !
am really annoyed by the fact why elderly ladies expect you to be all dressed up as a dulhan even after like almost a year of your marriage!
even my MIL keeps telling me how am not wearing that bright lipstick and has declared that I don’t like dressing up much - which is not true at all
also here in the UK I don’t understand the trends some of the pakistani brit families are following … like for instance when I got here in the beginning - i wore my semi formal dresses (the frocks and anarkalis) to some of the places but felt odd as everybody else was dressed totally casually in an old pair of jeans and tees. My hubby said its best to be comfortable and wear whatever you like ..and to my utter annoyance when i went on being casual either wearing my simple shalwar kameez or jeans and tops - the 'bahu’s of the family were all clad in desi wear
is it my luck or what and when I return home - my MIL would say ‘beta tum itna tyaar nai hoti…zyada pakistani formal kapre pehn kar jaya kero’
my question is WHY do they think like that .i just cant wear my bridal jewellery set and kaam walay kapre and a red lipstick everywhere - for me that would be social suicide
Same happens with me, i am nikkahfied and not fond of wearing heavy clothes and jewelries .. Everyone use to point me out that i should wear bangles or nose pin all the time .. i hate to wear bangles and their chan chan .. and what i do is i dont care for others and do what i want..
^ i know ..these aunties still think the BRIGHT gold laden look is what is fashion ....rest is all plain and too simple :p it really annoys me ..
i didnt bring alot of formal pakistani clothes here as I never thought that even a random meeting on a weekend should mean dressing up like you are attending a wedding !
now once my MIL goes back to pak ... she'd tell my mom ..and am in for a LONG rant session :( i feel so depressed ...why cant they let me be as I am
MIL's cant let u do what do want, they will always point out on something of yours either on dressing or cooking ... :) All u can do is to just listen to her and say jee jee jee ... :p
Casual dressing can mean all sorts of things to different people, but my personal tip would be to always wear 'quality' stuff when you're going to big family gatherings. Trust me, it'll be noticed not matter how pale the colour is or how simple the styling is.
