When asked how she got rolling, she takes a long breath before she softly starts, "I was completing my studies when this whole thing began. I have completed my Bachelors in Computer Engineering form Karachi and a Diploma in film making from the New York Film Academy, New York," she reveals. So how exactly did the ball get rolling, we query? "I was signed up by the modeling agency Zinc and was also anchoring business news programmes for Telebiz." It was basically as an anchor that A got her first taste of the tube. Telebiz is known for introducing new people on screen; as for the youngsters and the wannabes it is as good a place as any to polish up their act and skills if they have any. For those who have been blessed with talent, like A, they have moved on to greener pastures and made a name for themselves. As for the rest, it's only a transitory phase for them before they get lost into oblivion.
For A this news agency proved to be her talisman to stardom. And when she was registered with Zinc she knew she was in good hands. So once she had gotten into that pretty head of hers to strike it big, A let the cat out of the bag and announced her intentions to her folks. Were they taken aback? Certainly not! If anything they were as supportive of their dear daughter's decision as can be. "My family has always been very supportive of my career choices and have never had a problem with my decisions." A however, was not the only one to have struck out for gold. Her brother has been there too! "My brother models on and off whenever he gets time off from his studies and one of my aunts used to model too," she divulges. So now we know where she gets that bug! It's all in the family after all!
She loves to soar and reach out for the inaccessible. But then her flight is quite different from that of her dad's. While he flies planes as a professional pilot, A's is more a flight of fantasy. She plans big and wants to do a lot in life. Though the thought to be on screen had never even flitted through her mind - not even briefly. "I don't think I knew what I really wanted in life. But once I had taken up show business as a career I knew this was for good." And it is definitely a career for this girl. She does not treat it like a hobby for even though she is armed with a technical degree she has made this her bread and butter.
I ask the girl how she best likes to define herself for we have seen her as a model as well as an actress? "Well I'm a bit of both for acting and modelling are going simultaneously for me; as for which of the two I find more gratifying is difficult to say as both can be equally gratifying depending on the role or kind of fashion shoot I'm doing."
Besides acting, A has done catwalk shows, still shoots and commercial modelling too.
"I have worked with some good brands; following are some of the commercials I have done: 7up, Walls (3 walls commercials including one with Ali Azmat), Jazz, Imperial Leather Soap and Waves.
I have done a few catwalk shows including one in Dubai for ARY organised by the Pakistan Embassy and at Labels for Nomi Ansari and Sherezad. Then I have done quite a few shoots with different designers for various glossies. Besides, there are a couple of music videos that I have appeared in as well. You know Shahzad Roy's Saali and then there's bikhra hoon mein by JAL."
She manages to surprise me with her tirade and then after a pause, "Other than that I have hosted a number of programmes like Enterprising Women, Hamara Ghar and Metrolite which is currently running on GEO news." That was just as far as modelling went. She has even had a taste of acting and that is something that really gets her going. "I have so far done Minglish which is currently running on ARY; made a guest appearance in 6 Degrees which was running on HUM TV and a short play shot in New York which will run some time late this year," she reveals. Just when I think that I've heard it all A manages to surprise me again by interjecting "I have also been involved in the production of some ventures!" and this she does nonchalantly as if ignorant of the impression she has already made on me. Wanting to know of this production experience I hastily ask her to fill us out on the latest in that genre. "I have produced a programme called Enterprising Women for the channel Business Plus, Hamara Ghar and Parwarish for HUM TV."
Coming back to Saali I pin her for some how and when of this particular song. For it is this very ditty that had a certain segment scandalised by the connotation of the word saali. How did A get roped into this one? "Ahsan and Amna contacted me through Zinc (modeling agency) and I listened to the song and figured it would be fun. So I went ahead with it thinking what the heck!"
Were you apprehensive about doing it, I query? "I was more apprehensive about my performance as it was my first video." Since then she has been offered more while a few are in the pipeline.
There must be more to A than just showbiz; so what is it that keeps you occupied when you're not burdened by the showbiz antics? "I hang out with my friends. I love reading books and if nothing else a good movie always works wonders as an instant mood enhancer." Rather than be out painting the town red A prefers to stay home as she finds that to be the perfect recipe for relaxation. On whether she would consider herself to be an introvert, she says, "I am a private person I don't know whether that makes me an introvert or not." Introvert or not if there is one thing that she really loves doing that's dressing up. Though casual the turnout is nevertheless always spanking smart. "I'm most comfortable in Western attire. Kurtis and t-shirts are the preferred mode of dressing when working. But I love wearing saris for formal occasions."
However, A does not believe in a signature look. Rather she always opts for "Whatever catches my fancy at that point in time. I am not inspired by any person but you can say that I draw inspiration from various sources around me."
Currently A is busy with her modelling and acting but that is not her all. She has her eyes set on direction that is also her ultimate aim in life, to be behind the camera." And who knows, that may be sooner than later!

I totally cudn't recognize her... I;ve seen two episodes of Minglish but I had no clue it was the same annie that was in shehzad roy's video...
