It is a fact that medicines, surgeries, medical devices and other developments would not be here today if animal testing had not been used. Animal testing does not equate to animal cruelty. Scientists are not sadists! But animal rights activists demonise scientists at every given opportunity and want to stop all current and future animal testing.

I don’t understand why people are against it. The fact is, you cannot choose between animal testing and medicinal products/technologies. Animal testing is one of the preliminary stages in drug development and if the drug fails this test, it doesn’t progress to the next stages. If there was no proper animal testing, the drugs would never make it to the market. Thalidomide was a drug for pregnant women that did go through animal testing but the tests were not performed on pregnant animals… the result? Around 15,000 babies with serious birth defects (missing limbs etc.)

I think its pointless when animal rights activists won’t use makeup that has been tested on animals but wouldn’t mind going to the store to get a pack of Panadol that has gone through years and years of clinical trials, including animal testing.

I’m actually a supported of “Pro-Test”…which is a group that supports the use of animal testing for the progression of Medicine.

I firmly believe that the pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to animal testing, and until we have a better alternative, we must use animal testing. Using computer models or plants is not sufficient enough.

And i totally agree with your last point…i know so many people who are anti-animal testing and find it cruel, yet have no problem eating meat, ingesting medicine or wearing leather…i even know one lady who has an affinity with fur (not vintage, totally new) and yet bleats on about the cruelty of animal testing. What the falafel!!! :frusty:
