Animal Testing

What are your opinions on animal testing?

Are you for or against it? Either way, please share your reasoning.

PS: For those who are against, please don’t post explicit videos, just explain your reasons verbally…

Re: Animal Testing

No one has ANY opinions on animal testing? Really? :aq:

Re: Animal Testing

a Human Life is precious than an Animal Life. and if it can save a human's life, then yes Animal Testing should continue.

Animals have different reactions than us humans to drugs. So just because some meds can cure an animal, doesn't mean they can cure us humans. Similarly, If animals have negative reactions to certain drugs, doesn't mean it will have the same effects on us humans.

Now the crazy part about this is, that even If animals have negative reactions to certain drugs, they will still mass produce them anyway. LOL I have read somewhere that there are about 50 drugs out there which caused cancer to the animals they were tested on. :S

Now that was only about drugs, don't let me get started about other crap such as cosmetics...

Re: Animal Testing

Its a tough call but I think it should be allowed. Its for the greater good and I just dont mean that it will help humans to survive cause humans are better than animals .. but humans can add a greater value to the ecosystem to flourish as they have that conscious. So survival of many species and the responsibility to maintain the global balance lies on the shoulders of human beings.

I remember the famous line of Sock when he knowingly decided to go to the engine room to fix the warp drive and died because of the radiation exposure ...he said*

'The needs of the many outweigh the needs of few'. *

You serious? LOL You know how many species of animals are threatened with extinction because of the destructive nature of us humans*?*

Re: Animal Testing

Do you know how many rabbits die because wolves like to eat them? Does that mean we should kill all the wolves.

Human beings are born without fir or thick layer of fat or ability to dig hole and crawl inside it. We need to build houses to survive and clothes to wear. Its all' what the famous Lion King said .. the circle of life. For one specie to survive, the other specie needs to die

Not enough to make them extinguish. Wolves unlike humans only kill rabbits to survive. Nature balances herself out.

Humans on the other hand will hunt rabbits for fun, as a "hobby". Too many of them at that.

Wait, I thought "humans can add a greater value to the ecosystem to flourish as they have that conscious."?

And also "*So survival of many species and the responsibility to maintain the global balance lies on the shoulders of human beings." *

What happened? :p

We are technically evolved enough to be independent from what nature has to "offer" us to make clothes and build houses. We don't have to destroy mother nature to survive.

Re: Animal Testing

Listen, what I meant is that when humans realize that a specie is about to extinct, they pass laws to protect them, they create natural habitats, no hunting zones and what not. monkey does not have that ability to do it for a dolphin.

^But we all know that those laws don’t mean crap.

Look at what is happening with the Whales in Japan . Look at what is happening to the Elphants in Africa.

A monkey will not have the ability to make another species go extinguish in the first place. :silly:

There are always law breakers out there and not every specie is on the verge of extinction because of human beings.

Re: Animal Testing

Ok…:hmmm:

Well, personally, i believe the pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to animal testing, and that until we have a better alternative, we must employ animal testing. Using computer models/plants, is not sufficient enough.

And to those who are in uproar about animal testing and find it cruel, i ask you: Do you feel guilty when you eat meat, wear leather, or ingest medicine?

Re: Animal Testing

depends on the animal in question. cockroaches, flatworms, repubicans, fruit flies etc - i'm okay with.

cute furry huggable animals omgz no way..

Re: Animal Testing

I've seen rats in laboratories being tested for neurological research. Many advances have been made carrying out such experiments and have helped improve the quality of human life. Unfortunately while it seems quite cruel to those animals, there aren't too many other ways.

One can argue that a cat would have anyways killed the poor rat...dunno.

Re: Animal Testing

yeh but cat wouldnt have injected the rat in the ass with a special radioactive chemical that hurts its colon etc and let it suffer for weeks.

also, if you are coo with the oh that was gonna die anyway line of thinking, why not start testing on death-row inmates.

Re: Animal Testing

^ but dont we also kill the animal before we eat it. Now we can all argue about how we are killing the animal when we eat it vs when we conduct a test on it, but at the end, death of an animal is survival of a human (or more humans). We can all be ethical about it, but this is the sad truth.

Re: Animal Testing

True Queer. But again, what are the options?

Re: Animal Testing

im sure some lovely scientist can come up with a ratio to maximize human survival. it would involve testing on a certain percentage of humans. but ultimately this would mean more humans survive in the long run. something like, if we dont test on humans, we lose 100 humans a year. if we test of 20 humans a year, we lose only another 20 a year.

does that make it okay to go for option 2?

Re: Animal Testing

They could ask for volunteers :@:

Re: Animal Testing

There is no black or white answer.

Animal testing in the name of scientific breakthroughs, medical testing- sure.

Animal's to test makeup, no.
Having shampoo squeezed into a rabbit's eyes so Johnson and Johnson can perfect it's "No Tears" shampoo- NO.
Having cats and dogs starved to death, infected with desease and tortured to IAMS can create a great pet food, NO.

From Islam's perspective, you can potentially be forgiven for all your sins by simply giving a stray dog some water. This is the importance animals command in our religion. They are bay-zubaan (unable to speak) and are helpless to our mercy. Their well being is our (humans') responsibility.
