ok, we have 2 doggies and a Kat. They got hold of a baby squirrel. Cutest little thing you ever saw, he’s midnite black with the biggest eyes. He’s hurt but I dont think too badly. We put him in a “kitty cage” with water, goldfish crackers and cut-up fruit. The vet is closed for the weekend…what else can we do…the poor little thing is terrified and hurt and I dont know what else to do, he buried himself under the blanket that I put in the kitty cage and he doesnt want to eat or drink. Any vets out there???
Re: Animal lovers only
call animal control, they will pick him up, fix him up and set him loose.
other than that leave water and food in the cage, put the cage in an area where he is not bothered by ppl..make sure that cage and blanket does nto smell of the cats or dog who "got hold" of him, otherwise he will be more scared, if he feels safe and there is not too much activity around him he will eventually eat or drink.
Re: Animal lovers only
first thing leave him alone, you and the kids and the pets should be away from him, he is not as hungry as you think, cause he probably had lunch before the attack.
eventually he will come around and eat or drink, check his dish in the morning and if he hasnt eaten or improved then take him to a normal doc, they can check him out.
ps; good thinking on the blanket
Re: Animal lovers only
ack, thx mr f. But I called our town's "animal control" number, got the non-emergency police and they told me that they can send an animal trapper over to pick up the baby and "dispose" of him. I think I'll just do my nursing best for the little thing and call the vet on monday if he makes it. He has clean blankets, good food, clear water and keeping my savage other beasts away from him. Not much else I can do except pray for him....maybe you'd give him a moment in your prayers too....
Re: Animal lovers only
Keep him...Squirrels can be trained...My father had one as a child which he kept in his pocket...
You have never heard of 'Haldi' and 'Choona' and I don't know what they are called in English...
But a mixture of half and half of both on the wound has miraculous healing powers for furry animals...
As for food, if you have a dropper, just grab the squirrel and pour about two dropper fulls of milk down his throat...(Don't overfeed...Unlike humans, if animals overfeed they die)
After he gets his strength back, he will start eating himself...
Re: Animal lovers only
InshAllah...
Re: Animal lovers only
thank you Lajawab...i do have a dropper and will put on some gloves and try to give him some milk. will also take a photo if i can and post it, you should see thsi little beauty!
Re: Animal lovers only
Awww, I luv animals, Insha-Allah it'd be fine...
Do they have any RSPCA equivalent in America? They should beable to tell you over the phone what to do with it... Sounds cute n all, we only have grey squirrels over here and a few red in some places.
We had a few baby birds fall out of their nest and I phoned the RSPCA and they told me if the parents are still hovering about I should make a substitute nest for them in a cardboard box and put it up high so their parents can feed them in there till they can fend for themselves, and it worked...
Re: Animal lovers only
...ok he LOVED the milk!!! Little cutie, i'll post some photos now over in image2...thx again
Re: Animal lovers only

Re: Animal lovers only
awww… so sad.. :s
u know.. human medicines work on animals just the same… after plenty of visits to the vet (i have kittens).. he told me to stop going bankrupt and just use medicines for humans… eye drops, amoxil for infections… iodex for when i stepped on the poor things leg… and fucidin for when i closed the door on my kitten’s leg and tore thru some skin ouch …
for the cuts.. i would suggest puttin on some medicine u would use for cuts , with anitseptic (like fucidin)… and then bandage it…
and feeding milk with dropper.. good job :k: !!
goes to check out the pic
Re: Animal lovers only
...so sorry, the "upload" feature isnt working at the moment...I'll post as soon as its back. Little "Squeal" is doing just fine, he loves his milk and he ate some peanuts. He's still scared and misses his mama but at least he's eating. No visible cuts but he isnt walking and running, not sure maybe he's got a broken bone but could also just be fear. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the help, I'm calling our vet in the morning, will report back and (hopefully) be able to post his pretty pic!
Re: Animal lovers only
can u search for his/her mommy? what if she's lookin for lil squeal :(

Re: Animal lovers only
^^
Khawateen...Cats are okay...
There's a problem with dealing with the little ones of herbivores and birds...
Once the touch of humans leaves their smell on their fur or feathers, it's highly likely the parent won't accept it back...
That why's it's said, if you find a bird kid out of its nest, pick it with something like a tissue or plastic so that the smell of humans doesn't defile it...
Re: Animal lovers only
I am so glad that you’re not looking after me!!! ![]()
Re: Animal lovers only
I am surprised your dogs caught it and it is still ok, one of my dogs once got hold of a cat, for a split second and the poor thing was paralyzed. Dogs normally bite on the back bone and crush it when it comes to lil animals, i took the poor lil thing to the vet to be put down and had to see the the vet administer the shot.
BTW I came to this thread thinking ke you wanted people that go along with your husband. :) sorry
