Re: Animal cruelty in childhood

I did kill some chipkali. That was the only way to get rid from that.

Once I cut (practical) a frog without making him unconsious. Just for practice.

Now I feel I did very wrong If Allah will ever forgive me for that.

Hamara driver he was pathan and he use to put niswar in some girgits moth and we use to watch girgit's dance after niswar. He was old enough and use to laugh.

When there is so much poverty among humans and little kids don’t even get meals two times a day, slaving out in some shops and roadside stalls , animal cruelty should be our last concern :disgust:!!

Just incase you missed, this thread is not just about animal cruelty, it’s about a serious psychological problem in children, which have very serious implications in their adult life.In general, we seem to be ignorant about it.

Re: Animal cruelty in childhood

Some children can be highly harmful not only to the animals but to humans as well.
Murder of James Bulger - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's well established by psychological research that animal cruelty, fire-setting, and chronic bed-wetting past the appropriate age in childhood are the three greatest predictors of violent criminal behavior in adulthood. Anyone who thinks that animal cruelty (by this I mean torture, mutilation, and willfull neglect) shouldn't be a concern doesn't understand the tight correlation to violence against people. Here in the United States, in approximately 85-90% of households where animal cruelty has taken place, there is also another form of domestic violence going on.

I find it sad that although our religion very clearly teaches kindness and compassion toward animals (there are many stories of our Prophet's kindness toward camels, horses, and cats especially but also toward dogs), that there seems to be so little feeling for these creatures in many parts of the Islamic world. Keeping a pet or having a real love for animals is cultural, but a basic recognition of the fact that animals experience feelings and deserve some level of respect should be universal.

No, i think that would just reinforce the belief and mindset that weak are there for the taking.

Although, some people who did animal cruelty as a child grow up to be fine citizens, and infact advocate better treatment. But it’s a dangerous trend, and those who continually indulge in animal cruelty even as they grow a bit older (though still considered young) should be dealt with in the form of either the parent telling the child that it is wrong, or counseling, and so on…

In Pakistan we may see it as more prevalent because the methods are more crude perhaps, home made “tools”. In U.S. and other places people use BB GUN, and so on.

But it’s just not nice, or to be cheered on when someone has done it or is doing it. It’s something we should see as a sin and ask for forgiveness, because even the animals will be given justice on the Ultimate Day.

And no, i didn’t do weird stuff, i think… :hmmmm: If i think of something, i’ll share.

I don't find anything seriously wrong with animal cruelty in childhood. It might be a result of hyperactivity and curiosity in children. Plus, animals like cats are adorable creatures, and it's normal for children to play around with them and eventually get a bit harsh with them when the animal gets unresponsive or defensive.

I think you are confusing cruelty with being a nuisance. It is normal for kids to hug an animal too tight, pull on a tail, and generally annoy a cat or other animal----and they should be instructed to be gentle and not annoy. Cruelty is another issue---willful abuse---cutting, mutilation, torture, burning, purposeful neglect (leaving an animal tied and starving or without water--many people do this to their Eid lamb), etc. The connection between cruelty and later extreme violence and anti-social behavior is well established. And parents should also be wary of any sign that their child seems to enjoy inflicting harm on an animal---it's an indicator of a child's inability to empathize with a weaker/vulnerable being.

Re: Animal cruelty in childhood

They say people who are sick enough to do something like that rarely to never change....

I would say depending on the severity of the abuse, the severity of the punishment should increase. For intentionally killing and maiming and animal should be a life sentence. I think killing a dog is just as bad as killing a human. Death sentence to killing and mutilating more than one animal.

*ps. never mind *
