Angry mob kills a young Pakistani Muslim for allegedly committing blasphemy

MULTAN, Pakistan - An angry mob on Friday killed a Pakistani Muslim for allegedly committing blasphemy, police said.
Zahid Mehmood, 48, was beaten and stabbed during the fatal attack in the village of Barna, 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Faisalabad, police said.
Residents said Mehmood visited a village mosque Friday and claimed that he was the “last prophet of God.” Muslims believe the Prophet Muhammad was the last of a line of prophets that extended back to Abraham.
Several villagers were taking Mehmood to a police station to lodge a blasphemy complaint when a mob attacked and killed him, according to witnesses who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Mehmood had been arrested in 1994 for blasphemy, but a court released him after determining he was mentally unstable and could not understand the charge.
Mehmood’s relatives declined to press charges against the attackers, police said.

They should have institutionalized him at the very... The police shouldn't wait for charges to be pressed, they should make the arrests automatically.
