I’m not a dog person by any means, but given the reactions to the story so far, I think they’re wrongfully putting emphasis on the weapon used and not the person using the weapon.
n enraged Brooklyn man tossed a pit bull into a basement full of terrified children Wednesday - using it as a “weapon” that chomped a 3-year-old boy, cops said.Frantz Cesar, 24, was so angry with his girlfriend that he kicked in an air conditioner at her East New York home and threw his pit bull Rocky through the open window, according to police and family.
Six kids, from 8 months to 10 years old, were dozing and playing in the basement about 2:30 a.m. when the ferocious dog leaped into their midst.
“Dogs, particularly pit bulls, are being used as weapons,” said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
Rocky all but bit off the ear of 3-year-old Kamar Reynolds despite the heroic efforts of his mother, Keesha, 29, relatives said.
The mom, who was in the room watching the kids, said she wrestled with Rocky and tried to “put my arm in his mouth to get him off my baby” until Cesar suddenly appeared and pulled the animal away.
“There was so much blood I was scared and kept asking my baby, ‘Are you breathing? Please breathe.’ His ear was hanging down to the last string like a piece of meat,” she said, gesturing to the left side of her head. “We had to squeeze it to keep it on.”
The mother carried her son to safety and he later was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where his ear was reattached. Last night, he was awake and able to nod or shake his head in response to questions.
Of Cesar, Reynolds said, “If the police didn’t get him, I would have killed him.”
Cesar was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and acting in a manner to injure a child.
Kelly noted that the “horrendous” mauling was the second this week and said dog attacks are “increasingly a cause of concern.”
On Tuesday, two Staten Island pit bulls nearly ate 90-year-old Henry Piotrowski alive in front of his Port Richmond home. Doctors had to amputate his bottom left leg after the mauling, family members said. James McNair, 28, who lived around the corner from Piotrowski and owned the pit bulls, was charged yesterday with second-degree assault, authorities said.
Sources said neighbors logged at least nine complaints with 911 and 311 operators about the dogs during the past year - eight of them in the past month.

Most likely they are, however its an odd thing to point out and quite irrelevant to the story. In fact i think even the breed of the dog shouldn't be relevant to teh story either but rather the guy's monstrous actions.... but it seems like alot of ppl are focusing on the breed of the dog.
