Yeah we all lose our temper once in a while and say things to our kids that we later regret. Some parents get physically abusive…now I’m not talking about “physical abuse” here but the occasional spanking.
While some form of display of anger may be necessary, how do you control your emotions when your kid really gets you upset?
A friend’s 10- year old son doesn’t do his homework or revise his Quran sabaq. He’s behind in everything related to academics. She yells at him the moment he gets home from school. He yells back. They go round in circles. The dad doesn’t get home until late and when he does, he just lectures his son and then it’s time for the kid to go to bed.
What are some suggestions in this case and in other cases where anger needs to be managed. How?
It may be a bit hard, but for some kids punishments works while for others "rewards" will work. Your friend needs to experiment both and see what is better suited for her child. Yelling at kids, though I am guilty of that too but I try to not do it on regular basis. Though I am not a "bollywood" fan :D but in Taare Zameen Par, Amir Khan gave a very good example (though may not be a 'realistic one') about Island where people gather around tree and yell at it/curse it which results in tree dieing in few days.
He might have some degree of learning disability , she needs to find out why he behaves that way. Or may be he misses his dad too when he wants to hang around his dad.
