The Islamophobes of the year winners have been chosen, a big round of applause to all of them for their hard work and dedication to their cause (yes I am being sarcastic:) ).
Saturday evening saw a dazzling evening of fun, food and entertainment at the Islamic Centre of England in Maida Vale, as the Islamic Human Rights Commission held the first ever ‘Annual Islamophobia Awards.’ Those deemed to be the worst Islamophobes were acknowledged at this satirical event. Nominated by the public and selected by a panel of judges, the winners were:
1)‘Most Islamophobic British Politician of the Year’ award: Nick Griffin, leader of the British National Party, and David Blunkett, British Home Secretary (joint winners)
2)‘Most Islamophobic International Politician’: Ariel Sharon, Israeli Prime Minister
3)‘Most Islamophobic Media Personality’: Melanie Philips, Daily Mail columnist
4)‘Most Islamophobic Media’: Fox Network News
‘Islamophobe of the Year’: George Bush Jnr, President of the USA
P.s: Regrettably none of the winners decided to attend the event.
Is it true that the winners were presented with the copies of Quran where it is stated that their necks should be chopped and they are not to be trusted? I am disgustingly unamazed that I was not nominated for this award. Oh well, I hope I qualify next year. Meanwhile, my organization (peace thru drugs and alcohol) is conducting its first annual intelliphobia awards presented to dumb hijabiheads. I get to present the award at a hijab lifting and award shoving ceremony. Nominations are welcome.
The Islamic Human Rights Commission should spend more time and energy on improving the human rights conditions of the oppressed peoples of Muslim countries. Instead of giving out awards to people who fear Islam, perhaps they should give out awards to those Muslims who are causing this fear of Islam.
For the record, moral criticism of Muslim practices, scepticism about Islamic doctrines, and calls for modernization and democratization of Muslim lands does not constitute hatred or intolerance towards Islam. Criticism or fear of Islam is not the same as hatred or contempt for Muslims.
