Found out last night… got an email and a phone call from my supervisor -

Umar:

On behalf of members of your comprehensive exam committee, I am pleased to inform you of your grade of P+ (Pass with Distinction - the highest grade allowed).

The committee was unanimous in its determination of this grade. All thought you produced excellent work in your responses to the 5-hour written exam questions and the take-home essay. Well done!

Not just yet LBG… the way it works in a Ph.D. is that you write your Doctoral Comprehensive Exams somewhere after 2.5 years once you have sufficient knowledge to get started on your dissertation research project. These exams mark the end of the Doctoral Residency.

I’m 3/4 of the way through - I have 4 out of 6 chapters for my dissertation, and have two more milestones. In July, I’ll be defending my dissertation proposal at which point, I’ll become an ABD (All But Dissertation OR what we call *All But Done *). Then after a few rounds of data collection, analysis and write-up of the last two chapters of my dissertation, sometime by next year Spring, I’m hoping to defend my final dissertation.
