And now Chalabi is a terrorist

IS this the same Chalabi? I bet not! had to be his clone… May be undie, ohi or one of their ilk can come with some gooooood spin…

US troops raid Chalabi residence

Mr Chalabi is seen as one of the Council’s most ambitious figures
US and Iraqi forces have raided the Baghdad residence of a former key Washington ally, Ahmed Chalabi.
Troops surrounded Mr Chalabi’s house in the upmarket Mansour district and removed computers and documents.

Mr Chalabi has become increasingly distanced from the US after openly challenging how much power the coalition was ceding to Iraqis.

After the 2003 war, the Iraqi National Congress leader was a favourite of the Pentagon and tipped to lead Iraq.

On Wednesday he said in a BBC interview that Iraqis should have complete control over oil, development and property currently in US hands.

“The Iraqi Governing Council will clearly define what sovereignty means,” he told Radio 4’s Today programme.

Is this supposed to give him credibility before we crown him??

Hmmm...I was thinking the same thing.

Anyway it saves him right - he is a convicted criminal, as well as a stooge and I don't think many will have sympathy with his predicament.

In urdu there is a mahawara which goes like:

Time anay per gadhay ko bhi baap bana loo

US is desperatly trying to find a scapegoat to lay the WMD blame on, and since they got most of their info from mr chalabi, its no surprise that hez the one paying now.
I kinda feel pity for the poor fellow...all his false hopes of becoming the next iraqi head have been quashed, and he was played like a fiddle by the americans. The pentagon ppl would be laughing their asses of...

Just a little correction

thanks Kaleem

There is no such thing as a permanent friend in politics. Is this the same Ahmed Chalabi who was feted and dined by the US admin? How conveniently he has now been cast into the role of the villain.

i don't feel sorry for him, i hate to state this but it is the truth. For years, Ahmed Chalabi was at the forefront of endorsing the sanctions regime against Iraq. All those years, he was the chamcha of the US admin - he refused to acknowledge he was being taken for a ride. Ab uss ko pata chala na. He was completely and utterly played like a fiddle by the US admin. You reap what you sow, Mr. Chalabi. Too bad he spent all those years/decades sucking upto the US admin, even at the expense of what it was costing millions of his fellow Iraqis. Overnight, he has turned from their beloved chamcha to the ugly villain. A good lesson for future wannabe puppets of the US admin.

Say what you may, this Chalabi has given a new meaning to the term "double agent". Imagine the guy feeding BS to Pentagon, making sure sanctions remain in place, and at the same time getting Oil-for-Food money from Saddam and cultivating friendships with Iranian government. He must have some real good salesmenship talent. How many people can one fool at the same time. The guy is a guru. Master of the art.

True.

However, if he had been a truly good double agent, he should have been able to guess what was coming with the raid of his house...or maybe not. To be honest, i have watched this guy for years, since 1999, and to see now that he finally realizes that his alliance with the US admin has got him nowhere - it feels really sweet. Any man who is willing to condone the genocidal treatment of millions of his own fellow citizens so that he can personally benefit from lucrative contracts and the possibility of even a governmental position in the new government (one of the carrots that was held out to him earlier on) - well, i don't have any pity and few praises for the man. Just hope he is left with some aqal after this experience.

A headline on Drudge, the only one there about Chalabi right now:

Raid on Chalabi Puts NEW YORK TIMES on the Spot…

Which links to this article link. Okay, the article is fine.. the NYT were dumbasses in swallowing that crap. But regarding Drudge’s portrayal, you’d think folks like Cheney, Wolfie, Feith, et al weren’t suckered too?? I’d say it’s a bit more important that our government be put on the spot than a newspaper. That’s just me though
