@khattichic benefit wattsup is my face highlighter too and you were just born with the glow.. thanks to Ammi!!!
I look horrible with too dewy skin but the way these salons put highlighter is all over the face. I really do wanna see a bride in person. @Greysanatomyfan how did she layer the makeup. Can you share some tips?
There was a previous thread I believe on this same topic - and one of the girls who took Anam's course said that she uses a glycerin + water combo on the brides for that wet, dewy look.
I sometimes find that brides have too much blush and too much highlighter going on. I think for my dewar's wedding in the future - I'm going to do my makeup myself as I'm not a fan of the glittery eyeshadows or that much highlighter..
I do like Bina Khan's brides and they have a more wide range of complexions on their facebook page - which I haven't really seen with Anam's or Natasha's salon.
Based on some looks by Natasha, they probably just dunk their head in highlighter towards the end. It does look too much sometimes. I have no idea what that glow would even look like on someone with a more sanwali skin. All the brides are so gori gori =/
I think highlighters work best on darker skin. There's something quite pretty and healthy about glowing tan skin. I bought the ysl touche eclat like a complete fool and it doesn't even show up on my skin and gives me crazy eyes when it use for my dark circles. Like what does it even do?
I also have mary lou manizer which gives makes the upper cheekbones shiny so I would definitely recommend that.
Just went through my notes, and here’s what I found: she recommends you use MAC’s Soft and Gentle powder (MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle reviews - Makeupalley). Once you’re done doing all your make-up, she said to first use a make-up setting spray and then MAC’s fix plus to melt all the powders (don’t touch your face until it dries up). I don’t think she told us anything else…
Wayne Goss made a video covering touche Eclat. I still didn’t understand what it did after watching that video =/
I’ve got a lovely gold highlighter for myself, which I think suits me a lot better than silver/white ones. But at the rate Natasha uses highlighter on fair complexions, I have a feeling it doesn’t translate that well on a darker skin.
@Ess Emm Which shade of highlighter suits which skin tone? I’ve heard conflicting advice on this from makeup artists and makeup tutorials.
I’ve been experimenting with highlighter and illuminator lately and from personal experience (I’m NC15 in MAC foundation) and what I’ve seen on other people, Anam style loads of highlighter doesn’t work on light skinned complexions. It comes across as oilyness, particularly around the nose and forehead areas, such as:
Yes exactly, that’s my only gripe with the highlighters the MUAs use. I know it’s supposed to be over the top for photographs, since everything can be washed out, but it’s just OTT. As a girl who already has an oily face, I don’t want to have layers of makeup upon me to control that oilyness, only to have a finishing look that makes it look like I do.
As for which highlighter suits which skin tone, I’ve honestly heard different views. Some say more olive skinned/tanned skin should use gold (eg Benefit Sun beam), whereas the more fairer ones can use the more silvery stuff (eg Benefit High Beam). However, I have also heard that you can use either ones, there are no restrictions. At the end of the day thought you just want a glow, so whatever suits you the best, go for it.
I’ve had a look at the more silver/white highlighters as well and have seen people use those. They aren’t terribly flattering either and often end up making light complected girls look like a character from Twilight.
Recently though, a makeup artist friend of mine suggested looking into pinkish/nude toned highlighters. I’m currently trying out Benefit’s Girl Meets Pearl:
That’s very pretty. I think the way you’ve described your skin tone (and the hair color you’ve got these days) it will look very flattering on you. It does look a lot like the High Beam dupe everyone keeps talking about, Boots No. 7 Illuminating lotion Beauty Broadcast: Benefit High Beam Dupe!, but I haven’t seen th Boots one in person so I can’t really say how similar IRL it looks.
BTW I meant to post pictures when I posted about where to apply highlighter, but couldn’t find the right ones then. Just came across them now though. The first one is more when you’re using just a highlighter, while the second one is when you’re using a bronzer or darker foundation along with a concealer or lighter foundation to highlight and contour, but if you ignore the giant highlighter on the forehead like shown it still totally works.
Does that look good in person? I’ve heard bloggers talk about that but haven’t seen it in person.
I’ve seen a couple of people whose wedding look involved loads of finishing spray and it looked nice and dewy in pictures, but super shiny and OTT in person.
I didn’t like it to be honest. I think they do a lot of OTT makeup so it looks good in pictures.. but up close it just looks wayyy to shiny.
I’ve yet to see their brides in person - but some girls say the photos are edited that they post and others say it looks nice. I guess it’s personal preference. I kind of think that much makeup ends up aging the girls significantly. I like Bina Khan’s makeup more because it’s more natural but some girls complain it’s too “plain”.
I prefer Natasha over Anam. If I ever get married In Karachi, I'll like to go to BK or Natasha. I will however tell Natasha to go easy on the highlights/illuminater or whatver it is that the brides have on these days. It looks too... Hmm... Fake.
