I have a Samsung Galaxy S captivate (AT & T).It had been working fine so far but all of a sudden it has developed an issue.
Whenever I make a call or receive a call, the screen goes dead.I push the power button on the side and it still does not light up.Incase I have to use the dial pad during the call or turn on the speaker,I cannot do that.I can’t even disconnect the call unless the party on the other end does, because my screen is just dead.
Now on the other hand when I am using the phone in the car and it is paired with bluetooth,it works fine.During a call, the screen lights up and I can use the dial pad and all.(Don’t ask how many times I have had to run to my car to actually use my phone..!).
I have tried going through the settings like a million times but I cannot seem to figure it out.
I took it to the AT & T store and they said I can get a new one as I have insurance on this one (they also said they are not a trouble shooting facility..:().But I feel it has to do something with the settings because it works great otherwise and in the car (when the blue tooth is on).
Before I order a new one I was hoping if anyone can tell me what is going on.
If you are getting a replacement for free then why worry?
This happened with my Razor [a few years ago]. I think it's time had come. Some phones die sooner than others, just like some humins die sooner than others. Heard of Occam's Razor? The simplest explanations are usually the best ones so there :D!
^^:hehe:
I forgot to mention. It is not a free replacement. It is for $50 and it will be refurbished phone.Mine on the other hand was brand new, atleast 1.5 years ago…
I will have to get a replacement but was wondering if there is some sort of setting I am not aware of and can fix, because it works fine in the car and otherwise.I fail to understand what happened to it…
Almost all the full touchscreen phone has a sensor called "Proximity Sensor" that turns off the display when you put the phone near to your ears. You can check if you have a settings for Proximity Sensor, or may be that sensor has some Software/Hardware issue.
Check if you have any software updates (Check Samsung Keis and Settings->About->Software Update)
To test the sensor, dial any number and place your hand on the top bezel of your phone (just above the Notification Bar), the screen should turn off, and when you release your hand, it should come back to normal.
There is a Test code for the proximity sensor as well, i dont know if it will work on the AT & T version, anyways try this
Type in ##0588## this will run the Proximity sensor test.
