A really great scholar. Do a search for Zaytuna Institute and look him up in the teacher’s section.

$40 They should not mock religion. It should be reasonable then they can have appeals for fund raising.
Re: An Evening with Shaykh Hamza Yusuf (Toronto)
i’d think twice before calling him a muslim, let alone a “great scholar”.
Hamza Yousuf is one of those scholars who you are supposed to stay away from.

Idiot!
Sheikh Hamza Yusuf is a great alim and light of Islam. Allah has blessed this ummah by placing Sheikh Hamza amongst us lowly people.

I had this view about him too…but once you meet and experience a person..its different.
Don’t fall into those stereotypes…
Do listen to his lectures.

**Sharaabi **How about you support your argument with proof?
Re: An Evening with Shaykh Hamza Yusuf (Toronto)

If it is a fundraising event, then $40 is fine.
From the website,
This is a fundraising event to support educational programs: All donors will receive a tax-receipt for their donations.
In that case, I don't see a problem with the $40 fee.

Now this sounds like an event I'd like to attend. So who's going? Maybe we can put together a table?
Those of you suggesting that there are issues with this person being an alim or a scholar, please either present reasons behind your statements or quit stirring trouble. Accusations without foundation only make you seem less credible. They do nothing to malign, as you probably are hoping to do, the person in question's character.

Maddy, you can also try to call them up and see if you can pick up your tickets else where.
As for those of you who do not hold Shaikh Hamza Yusuf in high regard, I feel sorry for you because you are missing a great educational experience.

Do listen to his lectures.
I have listened to plenty of his lectures. I must admit, that it was Hamza Yousuf, whose lectures brought me close to Islam and help me become a practicing muslim.
Until one day i heard him say, that he’d want to die in peace and not in a battlefield because Islam does not promote fighting and nowhere in the Quran does Allah ask us to fight.
Clearly ignoring and negating the 400 odd ayaah’s of the Quran where Allah’s asks us to fight. Now this can be due to either he’s got no idea about those 400 odd ayaah’s, or he’s hiding the truth. Now that doesn’t really make him a great scholar and the light of islam.
And of course this was a post 911 lecture.
Now a bit about how Hamza was before 911. A few years ago, a friend of mine attended Hamza Yousuf’s lectues and heard him say, “the only way to defeat the Tunisian goverment is through Jihad”. And now after 911, after the pressure on the Ulema by the U.S. government, you have a Hamza Yousuf with a completely different view point.
For all those who are jumping on me for doing takfeer on Hamza, look into what Rasoolallah (sas) said regarding those scholars who hide the truth.

Just let me know where you got this from
I’ve never heard him say that :S
Re: An Evening with Shaykh Hamza Yusuf (Toronto)
Maybe he meant to say Allah doesnt want us to fight unnecessarily ?
Sincerely,
