“how do you begin to morn 150 relatives? we have cried for one, we have cried for two, we cried for three-- you get to a point where you are so drained, you just can’t cry any more”
These are words of London Based Kashmiri Shaheen who lost 150 relatives and dozens still missing. Shaheen and his brother Zaheer, a computer software graudate who had spent his childhood between London and Muzafarabad, and they have literally hundrads of relatives there, spoke 1st time to British press yesterday and gave a realistic and rather painfull picture of reality. His family is indeed one of dozens in similiar situation.
In her interview she also told about one of her serviving cousin Fauzia 27 & Humera 29 who lost her life. In her words “Humera was ateacher at an infant school 15 minutes up the mountains from Muzafarabad. When the tremors began, she walked out into the garden in fron of school and stood looking out over the mountain. My other cosin Fauzia, also a teacher, was on the veranda 10 yards away talking to her. Next thing, the mountain crumbled and fauzia watched dumbstuck as Humera went down with it. Gone! Then she turned around, and the school had collapsed. Many of 150 pupils died. Fauzia was untouched.”
Shaheen’s husband also lost many of his family members, She added “My Heart is Breaking for my husband: he is burying his mother and brither and sister-in-law today. And as soon as they can reach him, their seven month old baby too.” then she added “You know, I knew the whole family every one of them, sucha lovely people-----But I never did met the baby”
This is one of the stories when you KNOW that words are just can’t be enough to ease the sheer pain of those who suffered. There are literally hundrads of ppl going through all this and God knows how they are coping with it. I have nothing but great respect for their courage, the will to face such disaster and their commitment to go through all this asking nothing But Allah’s blessing.
