if you read the article it says it costs $27,800 on average however the comments below the article indicate a figure of between 40k-50k…which i wud agree with more, especially for a desi wedding…however,i also feel like if u are cost conscious and not too extravagant u can pull off a wedding with a budget of 30k

it depends, 100 people? or 300 people? 1 day or 3 days? you can save tons by cutting your guest list and the number of events you have (if everyone agrees).

In canada, for an average wedding (3 days + I would say an avg guestlist... around 300ish people) is around $30K. This is if you're budget conscious and want a nice but not extravagant wedding

If you do not want to be lavish than it can only cost taxi fare , blood test and marriage license fee if they two go to court house and get nikah done by the court clerk.
Otherwise there is much more to a desi wedding other than hall and guests . Like mayoon , mehndi , bari , jaheez , limo , haar phool , room decoration , car decoration , joray for dulha dulahn and their families etc , etc .
So it depends on number of guests and how many traditional events are planned and how many traditional customs you wish to follow. Also it will differ for bride and grooms family.

For a nikha you need ejab o gabool and two witnesses.

you need two male muslim for witness and father of bride.
if bride accept you in front of two witnesses, and father of bride also ok and you also accept it, then you are husband and wife.
you just need to go to your area county and fill out marriage form in order to register your wedding for legal purpose.
