The situation is alarming and is worsening by day.
Approximately 10,000 (Ten Thousand) registered internally displaced persons
(IDPs) from Bajaur, Swat & Momand have left their homes because of the
ongoing conflict in the region and are heading towards Mardan.
(The first emergency meeting of the voluntary Internally Displaced Relief
Committee - IDRC - was held in the Office of the Accountant General NWFP.

WHAT IS NEEDED?
The internally displaced ‘refugees’ from Bajaur and Swat, need urgent
emergency assistance of the following items:
- non-perishable food (tea, rice, sugar, flour, pulses etc)
- Medicines
- Tents
- Beddings
- Cooking Pots.
*Immediate attention towards clean drinking water & sanitation (Pot Hole
Toilets).
- URGENT Medical care
(The Government has already run out of limited accommodation /places in
Mardan district for the displaced persons and is planning setting up tentage
villages)
WHO CAN HELP?
*The IDRC members have decided to hold a preliminary fact finding meeting at
the Distt:Nazim Office Mardan on 21st August, 2008 at 11.00 AM.
*All prospective Civil Society members, foreign & local donors, corporate
sector, Media & APHR & Academia etc are requested to participate
*The IDRC also requested all potential donors, philanthropists and civil
society members to come together for this working cause.
- The government and international donors urged to immediately provide
emergency relief to the non-combatant and innocent civilians.
*The Committee also requested Ms.Sitara Ayaz Minister for Social Welfare
NWFP to kindly attend the meeting.
The Accountant General’s office at Fort Road Peshawar Cantt will provide
Secretariat Services. Khalid Riaz will officiate as liaison officer of IDRC.
*The Internally Displaced Relief Committee (IDRC) also decided to work on
permanent basis to address all disaster relief in the NWFP AND FATA. - Besides, Mardan IDPs from Bajaur and Mohmand are also heading towards
Peshawar and other districts.
*One particular locality Toheedabad in Shero Jhangi (Charsadda Road) is
crowded with such IDPs.
*Two organizations already committed to contribute towards: Medicines (HKSA)
Food items (Khwando Kor) while others have pledged support.
