So apparently there are few people that want their “healthy” limbs to be amputated. There is a surgeon who has done two cases.
Should the surgeons be allowed to amputate healthy limbs if the patient asks for it and pshychiatrist says that he/she may resort to other more risky ways of doing it by themselves?

i didnt read the whole wikipedia thingy…but why would you want to??? 
i would b grateful that i have healthy limbs ..i think if u want a healthy limb amputated u shud have to have therapy or counselling to make them see sense

wel you cross into the mode of ethics don’t you. what is right and what isn’t…and defined by who. say the surgeon refuses to do that, which they most probably would, seeing the training they get and the morals they have grown up with. seeing the mental illness these patients have, they will resort to any means they can get their hands on. going to some inexperienced, jaali degree holder surgeon, who has no morals or whatever, and they will amputate. it’s possible they might screw up the surgery in some way, and as a consequence might kill the person. or the patient himself might do it. again, improper equipment might lead to a bajillion other problems.
but say a proper surgeon does it. uses proper instruments, bandages properly, gives the patient time to heal properly, and then sends the patient on his way. that way, you can imagine the survival rates will increase a hundred fold. and they patient might actually feel whole, like they want to.
perhaps it’s my educational training, but i say go for therapy first. there has to be some way to reach to the patient through therapy. or drugs? use maybe anti-depressants? they seem to cure every thing under the sky these days

WHYYYYYYYYYYY would someone want to cut off their limb? Seriously? That just reeks of mental illness right there...
