What is the ‘average’ amount of gold, mehr, and money for gifts to give your prospective bride?
My fiancee is demanding that I give her 2 gold sets valued at $9k (US), $1000 mehr, and $3000 cash (1k for gifts, 2k for her valima outfit). On top of that she is saying I should give 1k for doodh pillai.
Re: Amount of gold/mehr(dowry)/money to give bride
Here, it seems to be about 10k (In English pounds).. Some people give much more and some less but that seems to be about average..
I've heard of people wanting to give less than a few hundred, whilst happily spending plenty on new laptops, phones etc on themselves.. that I do find a bit odd but if you think she's being unreasonable just say no..
Re: Amount of gold/mehr(dowry)/money to give bride
Depends on what your financial status is. I was told that the norm is to give 3 months worth of the guy's salary as Mehr. For me personally, we stuck to 1 month take-home salary (i.e. after paying taxes etc. came up to ~$5000)

Is she being unreasonable?
Whether or not she's being unreasonable depends on your income. So let's say you make $30,000 a year....then yes, she's being unreasonable. But if your salary is $100K+, then what she's asking for is fine.
