Ammi Jharoo managa rahi hain.

For ease of those who do not understand Urdu.
The above sentence means , My mom wants to borrow your broom.
So people borrow mundane things from each others like pots and pans , glasses , plates , chairs , cups , spoons and forks for their parties .
My wife and other housewives of our neighborhood borrow , tomatoes , yogurt , onion etc from each other.
Do you happily share and borrow this kind of stuff or you do not feel comfortable to borrow or share your panday ?

Re: Ammi Jharoo managa rahi hain.

isnt it “manga” rahi hain…(without the extra A )
I happily share  but dont borrow tht happily…Id rather walk a few blocks in the heat and get it myself from some baqqala than borrow:bummer:

Re: Ammi Jharoo managa rahi hain.

Never :nessy: or more so , over my dead body :snooty:

I have collected mine after such a struggle … once the neighbour wanted my tawa … and she burnt it badly .. god knows what she was trying to do with it … it was a non stick perfect bara sa tawa … So I never share bartan … the heart break is too much to handle if anything goes wrong with them …

However , I do not mind sharing the food stuff … I have heard in pakistan this happens alot .. but never seen that happen in dubai or the UK :hmmm:

Re: Ammi Jharoo managa rahi hain.

We have 5 Pakistani families living on our street and everyone always borrows from one another, we have never had any issues

Re: Ammi Jharoo managa rahi hain.

my mum does with some of her close friends in the community - food stuffs this is not really pots and pans!

Re: Ammi Jharoo managa rahi hain.

If I ever find the other desi in my building (the one who cooks such yummy smelling foods) I wlil move in :teary1:

Re: Ammi Jharoo managa rahi hain.

Our neighbour's always always asking for something, she's the only Asian around and constantly rings up at inappropriate times, watches me through my window and thinks of us as the equivalent of Asda.
My parents don't mind so much since it's only one neighbour and not the whole street as it is for some people, and she sends nice food over some times :) If we don't have anything we either trek to the shops or go without, I don't mind sharing with others but to ask to borrow something just feels odd to me.
Mehh, to each their own.

Re: Ammi Jharoo managa rahi hain.

Aww, that is terrible!! Did you have sleepless nights, because I know I would have. (Yes, I get attached to my personal belongings very easily, lol).

I would probably give out tomatoes and stuff, but not pots and pans - it would be too much to bear if someone ruined my special pot, I wouldn’t be able to forgive and forget. (Having said that, I don’t know how I would say ‘no’ if someone asked me for it ).
