I have tried it in different ways- with water, with oil, with oil and egg. It works good either way. Use a mild shampoo like Johnsons Baby to wash it off if you don't want to with reetha or shikakai, and also make sure your eyes are shut tight when you're washing your hair because if it gets in there, it's gonna make them sting like crazy for hours.
