Amitabh Bachchan billboards pulled down in Pakistan

As part of a promotional campaign for a telephone quiz contest, Telefun, a private call-in entertainment company in Pakistan had put up huge billboards of Big B with Pakistani flag in the background, across Karachi. The Pakistani government authorities however, passed orders to remove those ads immediately. The authorities say that they are not enemies of Amitabh Bachchan but the picture of Amitabh imposed over their national flag is an objectionable act. Besides, those spaces are reserved for their heroes only.
The contest which opens on the Pakistani Independence Day was to be promoted on the lines of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and therefore, used picture of Mr. Bachchan to attract the audiences. Besides, another obvious reason is Big B’s immense popularity in Pakistan as Indian films are still available openly on pirated VCD’s in Pakistan despite the official ban on them.

poor Big B:)

Re: Amitabh Bachchan billboards pulled down in Pakistan

But I’ve heared they have wiped out the Pakistan flag from that board instead of Big B, is that true ???

Re: Amitabh Bachchan billboards pulled down in Pakistan

But dont u think so it’s an insult of Pakistan coz they removed pakistani flag and replaced background with green color instead of removing Amitabh Bachan’s pic from front. Pakistan Govt. order was to remove Amitabh Bachan’s Pic from that board

Read this news:

“The city government’s (initial) objection was justified and we understand their position. Now we have replaced the Pakistani flag with a green background to which the local administration should not have any objections,” said a spokesman of Telefun"

Re: Amitabh Bachchan billboards pulled down in Pakistan

Yes, this has been extremely pathetic in every sense.
First Telefun stoops low enough to 'use' Amitiabh without consent/agreement for their small time telephone quiz gig that has Rs 1 Crore as the grandprize-that being the only connection with Amitabh!
I'm sure Amitabh's services were not purchased for this-they couldnt possibly afford him.
Secondly, for weeks they showed teasers on all channels with the Telefun adv ending with Amitabh saying in his typical style;
"Chauwda Agast sey Pakistan mein..."
"What the...!?" was every sane Pakistani's response. Sure ppl love Amitabh but there's a limit and there are laws and ethics...
Upon scrutiny of the Amitabh clip in the adv it's wide and clear that it's a clip from some other adv and is dubbed in Amitabh's voice to say the above phrase in urdu.
I'm glad the govt had enough sense to object and have the huge boards and the TV adv pulled down.
How irresponsible on Telefun's part.
I wonder why Amitabh hasn't invited them to court yet. They may get away from the govt's wrath by replacing the flag with green color, but their persistent use of Amitabh for commercial use without his knowledge is pathetic.
And what's the presing need to use and combine the Flag, Green color and only Amitabh for their business use...?

The govt should teach them more lessons so there are no such incidents in the future and Amitabh should send them a letter too.

Amitabh should sue them for this act.
