I call my Ammi aur Abbu so I will ask my kids to say same.
I will also allow them if they will call me anything appropriate and with love.
I'll call..........mera buchcha...........mera beta.........mera bachcha janu.........meri janu beti....etc etc.

And no it’s not ammi…it’s Uummi and it means in Arabic my mother
Abbi means in Arabic my father.

I call my mum - Ammi/mummy (ji)
Want my kids to call me "mama" :D.. Hubby can decide for himself

My cousin's kids call her and her husband by their first names (actually, they don't even call her by her first name, but rather the nickname everyone uses for her). Though I wouldn't want it that way for myself, those kids are very well-behaved and do not disrespect their parents.
My (Pakistani) friends call their mother the same adorable nickname her husband uses for her.
Another cousin's 3yo son accidentally slips and calls her Appa because he hears his aunts call her that. He has to be reminded to say Mama.
My great-grandmother was called "Bhabi" by her children because that's what everyone else in the joint household called her.
My dadi was called Ammijaan by her children as well as her grandchildren.
I call my mother Ammi. My husband calls his mother "Mum".
I'd like to be called Ammi.

Gosh we have some similiar cases .. My relative calls her mother "Baji" cuz thats wht all the other calls her as well and then she has two aunts and everyone including their own kids call them "Appi" and "baby" .. I find it weird!

Exactly the case with my Great grandmother. Even today, when my grandmother talks about her mother, my GG mother, she refers to her as "bhabi".

Exactly the case with my Great grandmother. Even today, when my grandmother talks about her mother, my GG mother, she refers to her as "bhabi". Wow.. never thought there was another case like that - and then I saw your post. :)
