"if we expect others to respect us then absolutely we have to respond likewise"
Please show me anywhere on GS where ANY American has spoken with disrespect or intentionally misspelled the name of Pakistan. Our president is frequently refered to as a monkey, and our dead are mocked.
The western world knows very little about Pakistan. If you look at "who is on Gupshup", around 2/3rds are guests. A large part of those may well be Americans, who are bound to be so impressed by the attitudes and respect shown here. Any wonder why you guys are hassled by immigration, and shot nasty looks on the bus? If more Americans really knew all the abuse that took place here, not just honest differences, they would be even more hostile.
Frankly, it does not bother me, one learns to filter out the ignorant form the intelligent human beings pretty quickly around here.
Fraudia:
Thanks for the thread. :k: Your post demonstrating sensitivity to this issue and respect for the American Gupshup posters (and Americans as a whole) is infinitely more powerful and meaningful than the hundreds of childish, boorish, disrespectful, inane posts by those using the terms you comment upon.
Frankly, if the best someone can do to debate the great issues of our time is to call the American President a monkey and to refer to US citizens as Amerikkkans, they are not worthy of listening or replying to. I’m glad the response of Americans has not been referring to Pakistan as Puke-istan or some other such nonsense. If GS degenerated into this kind of a forum, we would all be much the worse for it and GS ought to just close up shop.
I think OhioGuy is probably right when he suggests that our GS community is hurt negatively in that many visitors see this kind of cr*p and choose not to participate as Members because of it.
here is a lil' true story...
this lil girl was sitting and watching the news, and asked her mother
mummy, why dont they like us
the mother says "baiti (daughter) its because some bad people who are muslim killed many innocent people, and many people are upset and taking it out on other muslims"
and..
the daughter replies.. I know that mummy, but why dont they like us..I mean why dont they like us americans.
there are muslims who are loyal americans, kids who were born here and were raised here, and know this is their only home..my wife being one them. There are others who have spent a good portion of their life here and want to stay here, because this si what they call home now.
It is interesting for this group of people as they are an overlapping part of societies that have so much mistrust.
when I was preparing for the arrival of my babies, before the tragic ending, I often wondered what their lives will be like, how would they understand that 2 groups that they identify with have animosity and misunderstanding.
I see it sometimes when we go to some desi event and people start ripping on america and americans and how upset my wife gets.
There seems to be a common civility and courtesy component while communicating with people that seems to be missing, its not just here, many times I read some paper from middle east and am ticked off at how they portray americans at large, and then i watch some TV show on cable and get mad at how they group all muslims.
sadly..as this exercise here proved... there are those who would try to justify their lameness rather than understand how pointless such words are.
fruadia so your wife "supports" israel when israel forcibly takes lands from palestinians and creates settelements because the americans support that? or does your wife call the brutal president of uzbekistan a " great friend in the war on terror" even though he boils his political opponents? just because "her" president bush thinks of the guy like that?
i am sorry to say but it is pathetic...muslims are supposed to be musilms and only muslims...you can have a home in any country yuo want, but to love that country more than the islamic ummah is just a sign of slave mentality....
I am not respondiong to your other points because they made no sense
*i am sorry to say but it is pathetic...muslims are supposed to be musilms and only muslims...you can have a home in any country yuo want, but to love that country more than the islamic ummah is just a sign of slave mentality.... *
being a muslim does not mean you use rude and crude terms to bundle a group of people...THAT is pathetic.
This is not some political thing here, No Islam versus the west, or Ummah versus US, or Uk, or zilaa mardaan. A simple point that disrespectful terms should not be used, it is not in the character of a muslim. For reference look up seerat ul rasool.
jumping up and down and shouting ummah without understanding anything about what is being said is the sign of a brainwashed mentality...
Fine..be a part of Ummah, where does that say that using derogatory terms for others is part and parcel of belonging to the ummah?
btw- when the self appointed mouthpieces of the Ummah stops yip yapping and actually do something then I will take the Ummah seriously. The chicken**** loudmouths showed that they can only talk the talk when it came to saving Bosnians
See now there you're insulting the inhabitants of a group of countries and not basing your predujices on any singular government or ruling administration. Taking away the political element and bringing in a cultural ethnic dimension.

You must really learn how to focus your hatred.

Is using an insultive word toward Americans only insulting the government or ruling entity? Focus your own hatred before telling other people how to do it correctly.

Are you telling me that you were insulted by something I wrote? Americans are mostly immune to insults as we receive such a bounty of them. I guess I shouldn't assume everyone is so thick-skinned. Sorry.
Yeah. US became the richest, most powerful nation in the history of world in a span of 200 years by listening to the wise whispers of banana republic residing, super power wannabes. Thank you so much for your wisdom. We would have never got here without you.
It obviously was not part of your madrassa curriculum. Too bad you weren’t educated in Amerikkka, you could have ended up with more skills and talents than just spewing hatred and insults.
Semi, don;t be so harsh on madrassah. Not only it is a place to learn hatred and venom, but for kids like Chota, it also offers training on how to "kneel and Bob" white reciting scripture first hand.
