** For context, heres the original quote from the thread:
</MOD EDIT>**
What success? If it wasn’t for the bloody subsidies no western country would have their agriculture resource base. They would all be importing food from the developing world. They already import oil now it will be food. That is just one example.
CM, subsidies work both ways. Its not just for the local farmers....others benefit from it as well. Whatever the case maybe, Westeren nations are successful as compared to the other nations of the world.
Please explain to me how a 20 billion dollar US Farm bill is a mark of success? Its a mark of mis-allocation of resources. Not is a waste of money. Bush currently with CAFTA destoryed the US sugar industry. About bloody time. In the long run it helps the world over all because resources are not wasted. US is close to what 40 billion dollars in total subsidies to all agriculture and semi-agriculture sectors. The EU tops 60 billion and Australia, New Zealand and Japan are worse.
Actually the efficiency in which a country allocates its resources is defacto a case of success or not. If you mismanage a company and its resources you aren't successful. Same applies for countries.
All civilized people have condemned terror? Does being civilized have a requirement of being white and from the West? Its amazing that this was the same arguements used 40 years ago not to give blacks equal rights. Because they were not "civilized".
kids, a $40 B subsidy in a economy of trillions is a drop in the bucket. Go find another angles…pissant economic hacks.. Why do you guys even post such crap upwhen you know I am going to be reading it and subsequently making fun of your limited intellect and co-related educational pedigree? Haan!! why? Why?
CM, perhaps a nice tour of Nebraska would be good for you. Driving across will take about a day. If you go more than a minute without seeing corn or wheat fields as far as the eye can see, I will say something nice about you. The bread basket of the US is the most fertile productive agricultural economy in the world.
To break down for english for you why has the US tried for the past years to increase the amount allowed for trade distorting subsidies? If it makes no difference why ask for the increase this year, after the US got it last year in the July package?
Edit: Don’t you guys feel like idiots when you write this stuff? I mean you spout off nonsense as you are all right when your govt does the exact opposite of what you say they should do. I guess you know better than an entire dept of the US govt.
