American Media

A friend made this comment and I agree with him. Most of what you see on American media is not some kinda convoluted global conspiracy to brainwash masses. All the big media companies are at the end of the day publically held companies looking for profit and bigger viewer base to increase share of the market. They show what they think people want to see. So when they cover a week long runaway bride story, they are not really diverting your attention on what’s going on in Iraq. They’re most probably providing fodder to sensation hungry minds of average Americans.

Re: American Media

Roman .. u and your friend are so naive.. i don't even know where to start.. maybe Columbia Journalism's review of media ownership and consolidation is one place..

Re: American Media

Roman its interesting that you picked "runaway" bride story to make your point. You know Madhanee relayed a message that says "He is sorry and he wants you to come back". He will make sure that toilet seat is down when he is done and will watch "Queer eye for the straight guy" with you.

Re: American Media

The question you need to ask your friend (I am still surprised that you have a friend) is whether it is an issue of public control over private or gov't control. Push vs. pull...which is better?

Public arena also breeds choice. You have a littany of outlets, including khialah.com to feed your interests. It has nothing to do with sensation hungry minds...it has to do with public interest which your imaginary friend is correct about.

Re: American Media

Wag the dawg.

Re: American Media

Take Kaleem for example, if it was up to him, he would be all GWB CCTV all the time....WGWB

Re: American Media

Ehem, getting back to the subject

You have a friend?...thats rather shocking...

Now lets divert to this TV thingy, i reckon your ehem.... friend does have a point... your US companies are out there to create profit although im sure if they actually gave out particular types of news they would be an interested public wanting more perhaps they just dont want to tell people about things because they have been asked not to.

We are a lot more civilised in the uk

Re: American Media

profit? try airing an anti-war ad even if you paid double for it..

Re: American Media

Ms daisy vaisy, I don't :( Would you be my friend? A special Uk-ian friend who would to inform me now and then all things civilized?

PA, of course there are always going to be lobbies and influences and systematic agendas and what not. But it's still not some kinda global conspiracy what people make it out to be.

Re: American Media

No its not...most of it is driven by economics and some by the political agendas.

Re: American Media

Read Bernard Goldbergs' book "Bias". In one chapter he describes how the number of "homeless" people kept miraculously increasing in every media report, and how those faulty numbers were used to support funding. Further it described how many of them were drug addicts, alcoholics and insane, yet the only ones ever interviewed were the odd suburban couple who could not be more unlike the reality. Most reporters casually overlooked that the insane people wandering the streets had been released from institutions in do-gooder efforts to "mainstream" them into general society.

American media is an absolute herd mentality. They all pound and pound on the same story. And they are overwhelmingly liberal.

Re: American Media

Roman, you and your friend show signs of a brain that does not consider everything a conspiracy.....now that is unexcusable.
