America Welcomes President Ayub

I do not support military rule but just look at the extraordinary reception accorded to President Ayub on his July 1961 state visit to the United States. One can’t imagine a modern day US President waiting on the tarmac to receive a visiting head of state never mind a Pakistani leader esp. one as bonga as Nawaz Sharif. Those days (60s) you could hold your heads high and proudly say I am a Pakistani.

wow seems unreal

Sadly those that followed Ayub (both military and civilian looters) destroyed the image and strength of Pakistan

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

Great reception, but it has been downhill for Pakistan ever since.

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

yeah...those were the days when Pakistan enjoyed friendship/partnership at an equal level.

poor Nawaz Shareef had to wait 4 days to see Obamma! ... why?

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

Ayub for me was the best leader after Jinnah

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

Compare him to NS. NS conveniently avoided any Qs from the US media and chose to read out a written statement instead!

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

his son, Gauhar Ayyub, tried his best at politics but failed miserably...what do you think was the reason?

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

Gohar wasn't a complete failure, was speaker of the National Assembly etc. don't think he was as sensible or intelligent as Ayub..

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

oh i see...thanx.

so, you think, as i think, that military regimes have NOT been as bad in Pakistan's favor as the democratic governments...starting from ZAB to N$?

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

Ayub was good
Musharraf (1999-2002) was good

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

that's what i had in my mind as well but Musharraf's blunder catapulted Pakistan into today's abyss. if he did NOT cave-in, Pak would have been in better position because US was just bluffing to send Pakistan back to stone age.

by far, the worst military rule was that of Yahya Khan's, the drunkard!...may he rot in Hell. ameen

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

As far as industrialisation of Pakistan is concerned, ayubs time was amongst the best in Pakistan.

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

Would Pakistan be wise to fight a war for Taliban / AQ at that moment in time?

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

The best era of Pakistan!

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

Musharraf era till his resignation was good yeah he did some blunders but the he held the economy too

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

What was written on the paper?

Damn this Ganja Noora bhut bisti krwata hai

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

Musharraf's downfall began once he sided with corrupt chor loan defaulters, the Ch. brothers... poorey Pakistan mein issey Shujaat aur Pervez Elahi jaisey chamchon sey behter aur log nahin miley!

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

my two cents ....
1- Pakistan is a controlled , sociological experiment ... Period..
its creation beside the Muslims insecurities of living in an ERA of equality had a lot to do with the International politics of that ERA ...
it was created as a kind of ideological buffer against the onslaught of Communist ideology ....
... Period.

as far as its being a controlled entity , all we have to do is look at the historical sequences .

1947-58 8-9 Civilian Prime ministers including 4-5 from Bengal
1958-69 Ayub .... controlled
1969-71 Yahya .. controlled
1972-1977 BHUTTO civilian
1977-1988 Zia .... controlled
1988-1999 Civilian 2 times BB , 2 times Nawaz Sharif
1999-2008 Musharraf ...controlled
2008 .... one term of Zardari 5 years ] and probably another civilian term will be completed till 2018 ....

...... extrapolating to approximately a 10 year of so ....for each ..

... by the way , to me Dicators are poison, albeit sometime sweet poison , to a society , most of the times they stifle its natural evolution of a society ....
for example in case of Pakistan

Ayub ...his ERA is considered golden for economic progress ... yet it failed to arrest the widening alienation among the eastern and western wing ..... inspite of being a model developing country ...

Zia .. this is the most influential ERA ... the fruits of which we are still reaping .... during this ERA again economic growth was pretty decent .... yet during this ERA ...we were divided ....into every conceivable division , Religious , ethnic, ideological ,....and worst linguistic ...

these seeds of these divisions are now full fledged trees with thorns

Musharraf .... again a good ERA regarding economic growth .... but its this ERA ..when the Writ of the STATE shrunk.... and shrunk so bad ....that the very existence fo this STATE is now in question ...

Re: America Welcomes President Ayub

Simple answer
Civilians aka politicians are more corrupt!!
