OK i have just read that if you dont pay zakat in Ramzan and give it away afterwards, its classified as sadqah!
My dad is saying that as long as you have neeyat in your heart, keep the money and give it away in Pakistan when we go next inshallah which i kind of disagreed with.
Anyhow, what i wanted to ask is that do i have to pay zakat? I have gold and money saved and i feel that i should and every person should? I am only asking this because dad said that my husband should be paying it on bahalf of me…
I dont understand - please help cuz if i have to pay, i want to do it asap before Eid inshallah…

You dun need to give it in Ramadan... as long as you calculate it in Ramadan... can be given afterwards too... but giving in Ramadan will give you extra rewards :) just make sure, you calculate at the same time every year.
The money/wealth/gold/silver that you own, your husband is NOT responsible to pay zakaat on that. You are!

If he wants to, well and good... but if he does not want to, he is not responsible.. the responsilbilty of paying zakaat on stuff you own lies on your shoulder; however, you can not pay zakat on his behalf even if you want to....

^^ The view AQ presented I think is the best and you should stick with that...if you would like to see more views than you will get more confused or maybe you are trying to find a way out so your hubby can pay on behalf of you :) j/k

Wait, my MIL told me that i shud do it a year after i get married (so not this year but next year ill start paying zakat).. They just explained to me that whatever gold I have, get it evaluated for how much its worth and pay a percentage of that (2.5???)?

umm Sara that depends on the amount of zakat...in case someone is earning he/she has to like wait for an year (not necessarily ) but after an year Zakat becomes Farz. and Husband is not liable for zakat on wife's assets.

We just had a great leaflet distributed here on the topic of Zakat. It's got a great formula for calculating who is liable and how to calculate....I'll scan and upload later...right now gotta go and prepare to serve iftari..hubby will be hear any second!!!

But I'm not earning and I wont be earning enxt year either, so for that time, hubby is responsible for it right? and what abt when women aren't earning (dont work) then are their husbands responsible for it?

Earning is not the criteria.
"Owning" is the key word.....
IF you own gold, silver, wealth or the combination that makes you Saahib-e-Nisaab (7 1/2 Tolaa Gold or 52 1/2 tolaa silver:p) then, you are eligible to pay zakaat as long as you have been Saahib-e-Nisaab for a whole year.
