So i had my first bridal make up trial yesterday at MAC and boy oh boy was i DISAPPOINTED.
I asked for contouring , soft shadow on the eyes with little kohl on eyelids , natural yet subtle highlights on the face but the make-up artist got it all wrong and i ended up with a really strong cat eyed look which just does not suit me at all!!! i literally looked like a cat
nor did she have any clue on how to contour or use blush for that matter. My face looked incredibly flushed like i just ran a bloody marathon.
POINT IS i have now lost faith in any make up artist to do my face and only feel calm doing my own makeup
im getting married in september is it a crazy idea if i simply purchase my own make up for the mehindi/shaadi/walima and apply myself ???
i feel as if nobody knows my face like i do and nobody can make me look as good as i can … does anyone else feel /felt that way or applied their own make up on their wedding ??/
If I'm not wrong punjabi rose did her own make up. Or it was some other Guppan. turned out fine but she forgot to put the mascara on I think.
It's also a little stressful to have to do you're own wedding make-p If u can get some MUA u trust go for them because I'd like to just sit back and enjoy the few minutes before the shor sharaba of the wedding begins.
I have learned NEVER to go to MAC for makeovers, especially anything Desi related. I went to them for my cousin's mehndi and I also wanted a simple look, but as soon as they find out its a desi event they go overboard. If you're good at makeup, then yeah you should get the stuff and do it yourself but I would still look into a pro artist to come to you on your wedding day. It'll take a lot of stress off of you. I find that MUAs that specialize in Indian/Pakistani makeup are REALLY good at what they do.
I'm not a fan of MAC either - I had my makeup done by one of their artists at my sisters Nikkah and 1) I felt like I could do a better job and 2) the colour of the foundation didn't suit my skin (this I've seen with almost everyone who gets makeup done by MAC)
I'd recommend getting a professional to do your makeup because it's going to be a hectic day... so it'll be good to relax and have someone take care of everythign in terms of hair/makeup.
Having said that, I got married a month ago and I did my own makeup for my mehendi. I do feel like I know my face the best and could do a good job with the type of makeup I wanted... BUT I'd never take that risk on my wedding/valima day. Not because I don't know how to do my own makeup, but because I fully trusted the makeup artist I chose and knew her hair/makeup would last longer than anything I'd do :P (I've seen when brides do their own hair/makeup and the hair starts to unravel or the makeup smudges a little when they cry... or if you have an outdoor photoshoot in the heat, you'll have to remember that hair/makeup messes up easily and factor all that in)
It's your big day... pamper yourself and get someone to do it for you so you're stress free :)
Mac is western, they don't know-how a desi bridal look is, either it will b very simple or dramatic. Like western people can't understand that we often want a foundation that is lightere than our colour
I know 2 sisters who went to MAC to get their makeup for a wedding, one sister ended up looking amazing and the other ended up looking horrible. and they both had their makeup done by the same person.
Not all are the same...I think you should try and see if you can find a better artist.
Its not crazy to do your own makeup...but just know that you will have to be meticulous, cannot be rushed and need to get your hands on the right products.
Do some more trials I say...its not easy finding the right person BUT it does help to have someone else take care of this for on the wedding day. Things are way too crazy and all you really want to do is sit in a chair and let the MUA do what she needs to do.

Why would you want to go with a foundation that is lighter than your skin color? IMO, that's the number one mistake desi brides make
