Am I being too sensitive?

Re: Am I being too sensitive?

It's pretty pathetic to postpone a wedding for anything. My grandfather died in the days between my mehndi and my shaadi, but we went ahead with it anyway out of respect to my wife and her family. We just dialled back the exuberence to make it a bit more somber (cancelled any further dances, etc).

Re: Am I being too sensitive?

^ You wont believe this but this one time I was on my winter break in Pakistan, I attended a wedding where the groom's father had just passed away hours ago! The groom worked in another country and all, postponing would have caused problems for them, and apparently the 'food' was catered just like any lavish wedding so they didn't want to waste it all, though I still think there were plenty of orphanages they could have sent it to instead. On top of that, the girls side of the family didn't do a good job toning down a little to respect the gravity of the situation.

Re: Am I being too sensitive?

^That must have been really awkward. If I was the groom I wouldn't continue with the wedding no matter how much expense or inconvenience was involved. I'd think the bride's side would cancel on principle rather than going ahead with it.

Re: Am I being too sensitive?

wow...that's extreme!

Re: Am I being too sensitive?

Yeah or just do a small nikkah and ruksati.

Re: Am I being too sensitive?

But why is it all occurring to them at the last minute?

Re: Am I being too sensitive?

I wish I knew! I'm just scared that they'll do this to me again i.e plan a wedding and then politely refuse again

Re: Am I being too sensitive?

u know if my wedding was delayed twice...'d start to think twice about how serious the family is and look into other options. IMO keeping someone hanging like that is'nt right either.
