All my chiffon outfits are so delicate that the kaam gets caught non stop - I’m talking about designer suits on what appears to be good quality chiffon. These are so fragile i always worry about catching them on something or eventually ripping them although this hasn’t happened yet! Even more so its really annoying when your arm or dupatta keeps getting stuck
I have heavy Indian suits in Georgette and i am beginning to think this is a better fabric option simply because nothing gets caught on it, feels less risky when wearing and is overall more durable.
i think some designers have caught on to this - the description i got from SS for one of their outfits was crepe (which is a type of georgette)
what do you guys thing? what type of Georgette or any other fabric is a good alternative to nazok chiffon?
its similar work; crystals dabka kora etc - just doesn't get caught and feels more robust!
stoppit your the fabric and kaam expert on here - what would you suggest as an alternative? crepe? normal Georgette? i believe there are different types of georgette too?
I had an outfit made in a very fine silk which flowed beautifully but its not ideal for anarkalis...
My seamstress told me that about pure chiffon. That stuff will get caught because its so delicate that's why she never gets clothes made in pure chiffon with heavy work. So she told me to get mixed chiffon (mixed with georgette I think) which will hold the work better. That might be an option if you like the look of chiffon.
thr r 2 kinds of chiffon..one is crinkle chiffon n other one is plain chiffon ...da plain chiffon 60 grams wala is best for gettin kaam done...georgette on other hand isnt pure fabric so da colours r not dat bright as compared to da colours of pure chiffon..secondly i hardly saw ny designer outfits on mixx kapra..they use chiffons crinkle n plain ones with lining of crepe n trouser cloth is raw silk or crepe 60 grms...n chiffon is so flowy totally love it n these days less is more kind of kaam is inn so get smaall kaams done...
I got my mehndi outfit made from Mina Hassan, and she used georgette for the outfit because the kaam was really heavy on it. And it falls just like chiffon.
I do not like chiffon. I think the way it drapes/hangs on the body can make even slender women appear bigger. I'm not too fond of silk either..for the same reasons.
Georgette wouldnt tangle with kaam but the grace, elegance & soft look that crinkle chiffon brings .. georgette is never able to bring so. There is a crude harsh feeling to the georgette cloth. I know the work entangles but thats not the fault of the fabric but the kaam. The kaam walas should explicitly bend every type of kaam and leave no pointings.
1- **china crepe **is best alternate for chiffon. it has a fall like a chiffon, very light and u required no shameez benath that material (means its not sheer like chiffon) but plz no indian crepe its kinda cheap n synthetic)
2- Choose the kaam carefully. don't go for dabka etc... insted pearl, cut dana, poot
You can get really find georgette which feels like chiffon, and its a lot lighter. I got a dress made from it and it was basically a much purer, good quality georgette
i am a big hater on chiffon.....it was and still is the biggest rage in Lahore atleast. Last year around this time it was very difficult to find any material OTHER than chiffon. Ready made clothes were made from chiffon with all this heavy work..... designers REFUSED to make you an outfit in a material other than chiffon. It was freaking annoying. My shaadi ke kapary ....gorgeous as they were ....got destroyed after wearing them once due to the heavy kaam sewn onto the delicate material. Most of my formal jahaiz and basically all of my bari clothes are made of the wretched material as well. Its so annoying because as the OP said.... the outfits are too delicate, the threads get easily pulled by the kaam, your arms and legs are constantly getting stuck ..... and god forbid you hug someone in these outfits..... the outfit (and theirs too if they are wearing chiffon) are both gonners.
It's a business tactic in Pakistan I think..... they know these outfits won't get much use out of them... them getting ruined forces people to go out and buy more...
I agree- Indian outfits I have had held up better...they are made of georgette and the kaam is just as gorgeous.
The online designer- DE FLAIR (Saiqa Baji) , I used her to make one of my wedding day outfits and she made the most GORGEOUS shocking pink maxi for me.. and listened to my request to have it made in georgette... not chiffon. And guess what? Her dress is the ONLY one out of my wedding event outfits that has remained intact and beautiful. I plan on wearing it to my cousins shaadi soon inshAllah.
You can find georgette in all colors.... but shop keepers are chalaak and they tell you it does not exist. Ask your mothers and they will tell you there was a zamana not long ago when you could buy any material in any color and it was never an issue.
I've always liked chiffon due to its light, soft and non shiny texture. Soft pastels never look that pretty and elegant on any other materials as on chiffon. You have to be very careful in the selection of kaam. it should be non tangling and very light.
Alternate Material
**1-Pakistani Khaddi chiffon** : have the same look, elegance of china chiffon, can hold heavy kaam as well (hard to differentiate b/w two)
2-China Crepe : soft ,flowy non sheer material. looks good in soft pastel colrs. Can hold the heavy kaam very easily my second best choice
after khaddi chiffon.
**3 China Raw Silk : **My least fav . due to its satin like shine
i need to go to the shops and check out china crepe - although it looks like its a little heavier and perhaps stiffer than georgette chiffon??
i suppose the reason why chiffon is used is that it does flow beautifully but from my now fairly large stock of chiffon outfits i can say i am sick of it LOL

No china crepe is not siffer than georgette, infact it is very soft. There are various type of crepe like indian/pakistani and polyster crepe, dukanwala wouldnever tell u that and try to fool u . So always insist upon pure china crepe and be clear about it.
