Alternative lifestyle- too hip?

The monotony of our lives can be summed up as follows: we get jobs, get married, have children..we raise them..to have jobs, get married have children..who will then again follwo suit with…grow up gt jobs have children. its seems the enitre purpose of our lives is to have children!!! and raise them to have stable lives so they can do that same - i.e have children!!!

My question is is there more to life then this..or are we not ready for that?
For instance, i imagine my life to have a purpose! to make the world better - either thru defending rights, or creating beautiful art, or writting philosophical books, or finding cure to cnacer.

Human beings no longer need to ensure survival of the species. our entire objective in life doesnt have to be to have kids! who will have thier own kids…and so on! now that the world is on the brink of over-population, and having kids is actually detrimental to our planet..should our goals in life not be different also!!!

i was told by a friend of mine, i am living on my own planet and paki ppl dont hitnk like me…so i was curious…do they not!? i want to live on a farm and grow my own fod, while working as a proffesional, and adopting kids, who will climb rocks, and snowboard instead of soccer practice!

i dont know…is this too crazy! tell me! there has got to be one toehr paki atleast!!! one! other who thinks this way…!!! or am i really on my own planet!?

or do all paki’s want to be or wnat thier children to be doctors with fancy cars, and big homes!!! why not doctors for doctors without borders…in a poor country with a roof of your head, some form of shelter and food and other basic necessities!!! why do we need more!!!

why not these alternative lifestyles rather then the monotony we have now… or are we not ready?

Re: Alternative lifestyle- too hip?

luxury item,
i think there is something safe head way a person can make with alternative life styles.
living simpler life without mechanization is one example.
adapting a child and taking care of it.
taking care of animals,
owning a farm
starting kitchens for the homeless and poor & so on and so forth.
social constructivism is another theory that empowers the minority in the west. unfortunately the western nations have taken liberty to its destructive extremes and not productive.
alternative life style can include living single and moral fully
it does not always have to end in shameless affairs with just about anybody.
hedonism is living for pleasure
pleasure can be found in doing things life constructive things as well.
not doing things that other do, does not imply doing bad things, only.
i understand what u stated about loosened up relations, but again a wise person who adopts a 'different' manner of living, as a person, as a family member or as a citizen ought not to imply only a bad person, living life badly.
people who do unconventional, daring and right things are rare. u have to accept that and that is why they will look like alternative. which eventually becomes a gradual change within the rest of the surroundings as well. and there is no bad in that.
best,
dushi

Re: Alternative lifestyle- too hip?

Life can have a purpose with a husband/wife on your side and kids. Do you think all the great people who have brought us where we are right now didnt have anything of their own? Ofcoure, they had kids husbands and wifes.

The world can be a big and bad place. Do you think you will be able to cope with the downside of this world? Because the world will turn its back on you if you are in need. (most of the times :D )
I know I would feel empty if I did something for the world but didnt have anything or anyone of/for my own.

One thing, its ok to fly and dream. But dont forget, you will have to land aswell on day. Because if you dont, the ground is far deep and hard

Re: Alternative lifestyle- too hip?

Alternative lifestyle doesn't necessarily mean we become swingers, or remain single, i am by no means suggesting that! i think a life partner is a wonderful thing they can be your partner in crime.

I am not suggesting that we follow the western traditions of "alternative lifestyle"! i am just saying that maybe there should be more to life then just reproducing!!! I am sure this rubs a lot of people the wrong way because thats what most ppl want - the nice house, car(s) kids who will educate themselves to do the same!

Look at south-asian choices of proffession and education, the courses we take, and the professions we choose - economics, engineering, medicine, but what about studying the polor bears! or digging up dinosaur bones!!! i am just saying..... there is so much more to life, and i think we as a society are not able to look beyond survival mode!!

I can't demonize the west like a lot of people on this forum do! i think there are good and bad in all societies. The east is just as flawed maybe more so...However! i do think that modernization does not have to be westernization!! i think the japanese culture, the indian culture, the chilean native american culture has soooo much to offer! we dont all have to become european to be modern!!! - speak english and wear a suit!!! there is a lot that other cultures have to offer as well!

When i say alternative i don't mean swingers, i dont mean Single YUPPY females from sex and the city, what i do mean is exploring this life and planet and not just living to reproduce! Otherwise much like the Japanese, we will become machines.... all following suit ..all becoming western modern!! when i look at commericals or movies from Japan, its so sad... they had such an amzaing nad rich culture, now all u see is suits! i am sure they mostly like to study math and science too!

Re: Alternative lifestyle- too hip?

Sometimes i think that when u see the wrold as htis horrible place, you are less willing to give to it also! but if u realize that the world is infact quite a giving place, learn to look at your good fortune then always focusing on all the things in the world that are not right...then u see people around u as good and u want to give to them!

And i am not sugesting that alternative necessarily means - unmarried! I think marriage is a great thing! and i dont think that if u adopt a child as your own, u can possibly feel that they are not truly your own!!

I dont think u got the gist of my post!

Re: Alternative lifestyle- too hip?

Your life is what you make it out to be....

If you want other things in life apart from the normal have kids, get married etc then you have to work for it and make it happen..You get out of life what you put in with a bit of luck too

Re: Alternative lifestyle- too hip?

what i want out of life is not what this post is about!!! i am curious..if i am the only one who thinks like me!!! or if there are other ppl - paki ppl - specifically who think like me as well!!!

thats the Questions and hte focus of this post!!!

and i am realizing!!! i have wayyyy tooo much time on my hands htese days!!!

But seriously why the heck does everyone think i dont want marriage and kids!!! I DO!!!!!!! thats not what i am saying!!!!!!!!

Re: Alternative lifestyle- too hip?

i am adding this as an after thought..b/c everyone thinks this post is baout not getting married - so i am adding... i also want to marry a guy who works for doctors w/out borders and likes mountain climbing and white water rafting.....and is an environmentally conscience vegetarian...:D...6ft tall... and goodlooking! ...or well someone like that. :) ... b/c u can never really imagine a perfect person...ppl in real life however flawed are soo much better then the imaginery perfect person

come on now

No need for calling names.....

Re: Alternative lifestyle- too hip?

nope u are not the only one!...i totally agree with you on the part of there has to be something more to life in addition to this circle of survival of species... and there are people who have added value to their own life as a person and to the lives of people around them.... and here i would specially like to quote the name of Abdul sattar Edhi....

a simpler and pretty normal life but with a purpose ...
