Does someone know the state of developement of alternative energy resources in Pakistan?
I am talking about these Solar energy, Wind energy, bio fuel etc.
What other alternative energy resources could be thinkable in Pakistan? I heard about the energy being created by waves as well. Do you think it might have a chance in Pak?

I read an article in Popular Mechanics about the wave energy. Its a fabulous idea, very practicle.
Can it be implemented in Pakistan. I guess Money would be the biggest challenge

Portugal has started with the first wave farm. Aprox. 525MW for an investment of 80 Million Euros. Thats roughly 6.5 Billion Rupees. I think its cheaper than solar energy, no?
Besides, let the chinese copy the idea, we may get a discount, :)
pakistan has huge coal reserves in sind (thar coal). discovered in 1990s.
the figure is about 180 billion tonnes. (one of world's biggest deposits)
quality is not very good, but good enough for power generation for next 250 years.
we need to start using it b4 "clean energy" propoganda becomes a major global concern.
to avoid pollution issues, we can place the power generation systems in same desert, and extra smoke will help shielding the desert from radient heat :-), hence terraforming the desert too.
Our company luanched this project and they sutup small bio gas plants for domestic user in rural areas. One time cost is Rs 50,000 and it will work for 30 years
Well, I think its way beyond time to still be thinking about any solutions and actually implementing some. Global Warming is at CRITICAL levels and if we want to survive, not just as Pakistanis but all the earthlings, we need to act NOW. Anything is a promising contribution at this stage. Start cycling more. Demand HYBRID cars. Grow trees and plants (I've planted some, and they hardly ever take any effort). The whole idea if investing in alternative energy resources is to save the earth, and I believe, reducing our carbon footprints may just be the first and most important step. As far as researching alternative resources is concerned, my classmate actually built a water boiler for a science project at school, costing just Rs. 50. You just need to put the friggin thing on you roof with water supply and delivery connections and presto! Hot water in your bath. And not just that, the same thing could be used to generate steam, powering small, household, generators to use in applications like LEDs. Although LEDs cost a fair bit more than normal bulbs, they hardly ever use any energy, and last ages. Plus a little common sense can actually save you from using lots of light bulbs in one room. Simply paint the walls with bright colors and use mirrors (more mirrors reflect light exponentially). Moreover, we as a nation, need to get off our lazy bottoms and demand action in these areas by the government rather than just saying things on blogs.
It's all little bits and pieces that would fit together to make a difference.
@haroonbannu: appreciate your efforts. Actually we need to educate our nation about that. Cleanliness makes up half of our faith. And we should keep our neighborhoods, our houses, and ourselves clean. That also helps cleaning up the environment.
@thejoke: please feel free to post more info about those groups.
