Personally, I would be really happy if Altaf Hussain is somehow removed from MQM leadership. It does not matter whether he is involved in political killings or not. But his name has been maligned so much that it is imperative for MQM to move beyond Altaf Hussain.
If MQM continues to cling to Altaf then it should say goodbye to the attempts it has been making to move elsewhere in the country.
I am also a big critic of personality cult that Altaf has created in MQM. It represents educated urban middle class but its members talk about Altaf as if he is a god. I remember Mustafa Kamal once saying that after he leaves, other MQM mayors can also do wonders, so people should stop “shakhsiat-parasti”. But then he suddenly realized something and added that if people really want to commend someone then it should be Altaf. And at this point I was thinking, isn’t it shakhsiat-parasti as well? The same shakhsiat-parasti that he was condemning in his last sentence?!
Having said that, the difference between people like me and many people already posting here is that they are absolutely certain that Altaf/MQM are involved in political killings. Not just this political killings but EVERY killings which remained unsolved. But for me such killings remain a question mark. I would be convinced of Altaf’s involvement if an investigation like this topic proves it.
**But we now know that this report was based more on speculation than reality.
**Pakistan interior minister has categorically denied capturing of the two people from airport. But more importantly, Scotland Yard itself is saying that such reports of MQM’s involvement are “unfortunate innuendo”, and that it is still looking for the two suspects.

LONDON: **Scotland Yard emphatically denied Friday that two of its detectives had arrived in Pakistan after the arrest of two suspects **at the Karachi airport in the murder case of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Coordinator Dr Imran Farooq. Speaking exclusively to The News, a source at the Metropolitan denied that “either the two officers were in Pakistan or were about to go”.
“Such news circulating in Pakistani media are baseless and imaginary. I can confirm that these reports are false and devoid of truth. We regularly stay in touch with the Pakistani authorities to curb and tackle crimes and coordinate on various investigations but in this case (Dr Imran Farooq’s case) there is no team on Pakistani soil at the present,” the source told The News. He emphasized that such news were “speculative”.

The team investigating the killing of Dr Imran Farooq last year is working on the case with full speed, said the source. **Scotland Yard also termed as “unfortunate innuendo” some reports in blogosphere in relation to the killing of Dr Farooq.
The detectives said they were still looking for the two suspects in connection with the murder inquiry** while a suspect remains on the police bail till November pending further enquiries. They said the hunt for two Asian looking men was still on. The police said in its refreshed appeal that one of the suspects is of Asian appearance, in his late 20s-early 30s, 5ft 4ins - 5ft 6ins tall, of slim build, with piercing eyes, a pointed, pale-skinned face, short black/dark coloured hair, and a goatee-style beard. He wore a dark coloured baseball-style cap at the time of the attack. The second suspect, said the Police, is aged in his 30s, of stocky build, 5ft 9ins - 5ft 11ins tall, with short black hair.
So everything being said at this moment in this thread and in some media reports is based on speculation mostly.
As far as I am concerned, I would the real culprits to be punished for this killing. Be it Altaf or not. Never been a fan of this guy. And it’s because of his political style that I never got close to any die hard MQM member.

British High Commissioner has said the arrest reports of Altaf Hussain are not true and there is no restriction on the movement of Altaf.
However Zulfqar Mirza offered Scot Land Yard to assist in Imran Farooq murder case.
