Renouncing citizenship is not required, but renouncing Loyalty is. In order to become and American citizen, a Pakistani citizen must swear an oath that they are no longer loyal to Pakistan.
“I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen”.
You can keep your Pakistani citizenship, but you will have declared under oath that you have no remaining loyalty to Pakistan at all despite remaining a citizen.
Britain and Canada’s oath puts Pakistani citizens in a position where they are obligated to be loyal to Britain/Canada while still being loyal to Pakistan.
