Why does Altaf feel threatened by “powerful states”. Why the sudden outburst against NATO and US? What would they gain by eliminating him?
KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief, Altaf Hussain, on Sunday said the “international establishment” and some powerful countries had hatched a conspiracy to eliminate him and the murder of Dr Imran Farooq was a part of this plot. Altaf said this in a written message to the MQM activists, well-placed sources told The News.
Altaf Hussain, in his message, appealed to the party workers to continue his mission and spread his thoughts throughout the world in case he was assassinated. APP adds: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee appealed to the United Kingdom to provide adequate security to the party chief Altaf Hussain.
The MQM body made this appeal in its joint meeting held at the Khursheed Begum Memorial Hall in Azizabad here and at the International Secretariat of the party in London, said a statement issued here on Sunday.
It said the joint session also appealed to the British government to arrest the murderers of the slain party leader Dr Imran Farooq. The meeting denounced the steps allegedly being taken by anti-MQM forces to eliminate its leader, Altaf Hussain, the statement said.
The MQM body said that after the murder of Dr Imran Farooq, a plot had been made to malign the MQM and its Chief Altaf Hussain, triggering a wave of concern among its supporters and workers.
The Rabita Committee reposed full confidence in the leadership of Altaf Hussain and resolved that they would remain committed and continue the struggle for the people under his leadership. The meeting also prayed for the departed soul of Dr Imran Farooq, the statement added.
