Already

Ive meaning to ask this for some time now but never got around to it.

people use the word “Already” at the end of a sentence, usually where it doesnt belong and doesnt make sense.

What does it mean and when is it correct to use it?

Re: Already

^-- Alright :-p
slang used by usa-ians

Re: Already

Where is Miss Mohabat when you need her.

Re: Already

I usually say Already then. Which usually means "no comment" or "quit talking to me" or 'change the subject pronto" or sometimes substitute it for a cuss word.

Re: Already

^-- Already = Alrighty = Alright...=Aiet...

Evolution...

Re: Already

i heard it in a repeat of Friends, i thought it was slang but thought that it was obsolete now because the show was old..... but have seen it around on GS in a few posts now.

americans used to/still do? say "Period" at the end of their sentences

does already mean or take place of that?

Rucksarbibi, how do you say it in a sentence?

Re: Already

^-- few desis are still using... I have seen less educated people are using it more :-)

Re: Already

Brits use the word 'Fullstop' instead of 'period'.

already = asap, pronto, immediately etc.

Re: Already

Period is what americans use for the term fullstop. Using it at the end of a statement is like giving your final word leaving no room for further argument.

Already...I don't use myself and I could be wrong but this is how I have heard it being used... Grow up already, quit already...indicating that its high time the command given should be done or that whatever the person is doing has carried on for too long and should be stopped right away.

I'm sure someone who uses it can give a better explanation.

Re: Already

What an earth were you doing watching repeats of Friends??

How would you say “Already” in Punjabi? I mean in the sense that Lazy_daisy would like to know.

Re: Already

Thankyou Femme fatale, makes sense now

Miss M, you have a point

I dont think there is a pushtu word for already

Re: Already

Stop watching friends already LD

Re: Already

I hate Friends. I got so sick of that show and all the hype. Damn Rachel and Ross. They make me sick.

Re: Already

In Punjabi you would say khlo ja..the literal meaning is khaRay ho jao..stand up. Let me try
Give it up already = Khlo ja hun
Grow up already = Khlo ja
Quit already = Khlo ja

patience, bus kar, khlo ja

Mohabbat, where have you been  …quit playing with us already.

Re: Already

Why, i’v been waiting for you Fayz  …where have you been?

Khlo ja doesnt sound right for some reason. I would have thought the punjabi version of “already” to be “bas…gal khatam” In terms of when using “already” to mean Fullstop.

I’m probably wrong.

Re: Already

period would mean bas gal khatam.

Re: Already

aho. All women need to know ‘period’…since they have to say the last word in every fight.
MM, I’m around..it’s a day off here..long weekend yaay. I don’t exactlyknow what is the occassion but I know I am home today. :hula:
p.s FF, time to change the signature..but it beats them all

Re: Already

Femme Fatale, I must watch because the alternatives are antique buing and selling shows, how to redecorate, how to sell and buy houses and shows for 5 yearsolds

Re: Already

Just for you Fayz.

LD you have my sympathies. Even PTV Prime has more options.

Re: Already

What is wrong with shows for 5 year olds? I happen to think Balamory is highy educational. You should watch "cash in the attic" - the guy who presents it, the blonde, is very much gay but oh so gorgeous.

Fayz, dont you mean women get to throw the last punch?
