Aloo gosht recipe request

Please post your recipes for aloo gosht. I havn’t got pressure cooker so it will take a bit longer for me to cook. I need a recipe for 1kg lamb and want to make a thin salan consistency. Thankzzz:)

Re: Aloo gosht recipe request

2 tomatoes
1 onion
4 cloves garlic
1 green chilli
1 tsp salt
1 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric

  1. grind the onion, garlic, tomatoes and green chilli…
  2. place the mixture along with the meat in a pan
  3. add the spices
  4. add about a cup of water (or watever u think sufficient)
  5. leave on the stove for about 30-45 min (wait till the water dries up)
  6. if the meat is tender, then add less than a tbsp of oil and bhoon the meat
  7. add the potatoes… i usually add about 3 big potatoes…not tooooo many
  8. cook for about 5-7 minutes… and then add water (this is upto u..if u want a thick gravy.. dont add too much water..)

sometimes u dont even need to grind the masala mix… i usually add it if i think my onions arent going to get mushy…i hate seeing onion floaties in my gravy…

good luck :k:

Re: Aloo gosht recipe request

Thanks for recipe sadzzz:) Do you add any coriander/cumin powder in salan?
And mixture that you grind, you don't need to fry first, just add to meat, right?

Re: Aloo gosht recipe request

I make mine the weird way cause i dont like the traditional way.
I like my salan to be thick, red and yummy.

Hate those runny watery salans.

For a kilo of meat
brown 2 large onions
add meat and toss it around till its white
then add a teaspoon of zeera powder (i use it more cause i love the smell)
toss it around then add lehsan adrak and 3 medium sized frozen tomatoes, skin peeled and diced into tiny pieces.
stir it around till the tomatoes totally get mushed and disappear into a thick paste
add namak, mirch and haldi, add enough water to cover the meat and cook it for half an hour
add whatever sabzi you want after the meat is tender and later garnish it with dhania waghera.

For 2lb or 1kg meat:

In a pan add meat, 2-3 medium onions, sliced in big pieces, 1 whole garlic pod,
3/4 tbsp salt, 1 tbsp chilli powder, enough water to cover meat.
Boil everything for 45 mins-1 hour or until water dries up.
Then when water dry add 2 skinned and chopped tomatoes a lump of ginger and 1/4 cup oil. Bhoono for 5 mins then add 1tbps kasoori methi. Mix till meat gets brown, then add your veg, potatoes etc. Mix for about 10 mins then add 1tbsp coriander powder and 1 and a half tsp zeera powder and about 1/2 tsp turmeric powder. Mix everything again , if mixture sticks add small amount of water. When everything nice and mixed add 3 or 4 green chillies another 5 mins later add a small handful of coriander leaves. Boil water in kettle then add to pan how much you want for shorva. When water in pan boiled, put on low heat for about 45 mins.

Re: Aloo gosht recipe request

i made some alou gosht yesterday and it turned out a bit messy. I think I added the potatoes a little early and the whole salan is more thick gravy than a smooth watery one. HELP.

How do i fix this ?

Re: Aloo gosht recipe request

^ lol

better luck next time.

Its spoilt already if the potatoes are overcooked so adding more water and boiling the salan wont do any good.

Re: Aloo gosht recipe request

But you can take the aloos out and then add water and give it a boil

put the aloos back when you think the salan is ready

Re: Aloo gosht recipe request

^ naa i think the aloos are overcooked to the point where htey have become mashed and thats why its too thick

or maybe not.

Re: Aloo gosht recipe request

well they werent exactly mashed but yeh the salan was real thick.

Re: Aloo gosht recipe request

^ practice makes a man perfect :)
