Aloe Vera

My parents just got an Aloe vera plant…so tht we can all eat a little everyday.
Any tips on how to use it for Skin and hair?

Re: Aloe Vera

On skin if you got a cut you can use it like superglue… does the same sorta thing seals the wound from outside dirt and helps it heal quicker as well… but it stings like hell!(So does superglue though so theres no matter) :bummer:

If your planing to eat it be carefull because raw Aloe Vera depending on the type it is (Yes it comes in several varieties) can actually be highly toxic and cause anything from vomiting and diahorea to serious poisoning somewhat akin to Krait venom… basically you might not even realise the poison hit you and then it’s too late.

If your planning to eat it then I suggest cooking the internal white flesh… something like a sweet dish or halva type arrangement where you can hide the bitterness with loads of sweetner

Alternatively theres an old trick where you can use the Aloe Vera plants potent powers to soften meat, again this a risky porcess but apparently in Pakistan if the meat was old you could hide the taste by coating it in Aloe and cooking it with lots of spice… apparently it made old meat taste like much younger meat.

As for skin and hair, as you can tell thats hardly gonna be my department… I’ll ask the Wife. :cb:

Re: Aloe Vera

I ate it today…it was bittterrrrrrrrrrrrr…i ate it with honey and then ate lotss of hiney after it tooo…but the bitter taste was tehre for abt 15 min:bummer:

Re: Aloe Vera

I know that was very brave of you… the bitterness is only comparable to Quinine.

It makes the Karela sound sweet… :hehe:

Re: Aloe Vera

can alovera gel be applied on pimples?

Re: Aloe Vera

^ Yes it can but best to check with doctors or experts first. You might get Alergic reaction or worse an infection if the plant is not the right variety some of them have very nasty sap and you are best of trying it on the back of your hand or some inconspicous place first just to be sure.

Re: Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a species of Aloe and is harmless. There are other kinds of Aloe but as long as you've got the Aloe Vera, you should be alright.

Its great if you have a breakout because it does help if you have spots and stuff. And for hair, you can just cut off the outer skin and use the 'gel' part inside on your head. Just rub it in. I've tried it myself actually.

Finally if you're going to eat it, you must mix it with something because it tastes rank.

Re: Aloe Vera

Just out of curiousity … why do you wanna eat Aloe Vera?

Re: Aloe Vera

my doctor used to tell never ending benfits of aloe infact he brought me from his home to apply.
1. I was recommended to eat for constipation, once in a day, i did n it worked. but not only aloe cure, it was proper diet as well.
2.Applied the gel on face. remember it does not suit to every skin type coz my sis got red spots on her face when she applied so doc suggested her to mix the gel wid water then apply and it worked for both of us, makes skin smooth but not in one day.
3. My regular practice is to apply aloe gel on hairs once in a week, after 30 min or an hour shampoo ur hairs, ur hairs will become really soft. Tested! . i think it work as conditioner for me but my friend says that it helps to grow ur hairs.
4.I herd on tv an aerobic instructor was telling to eat 1 tbs daily for weight loss( not sure whether it work for this or not)
Other than that Aloe halwa(ghewgawar ka halwa...pardon me if i wrote wrong in roman) is recommended for joint pains and i m knwn wid ppl who r using it n found it effective.
I dnt exactly remember a famous tip of hair growth regarding it , its some thing that u need to put some methi seed inside aloever covered with cloth and leave for days...baki yad nai :)

How i used to eat: i place a leaf of aloe in my fridge when ever i had to eat , i cut the leaf from middle, separated the two parts n take out the gel to eat. Its my observation if u dnt place in fridge its gel consistency will be so runny (unable to handle via spoon) and taste is more bitter. my doc suggested me to eat n drink water
