so what do you think, as a consumer and loyal to your country, would you want your government to allow international big shots to enter your local markets? are the gains bigger then the losses? or do you think that although they employ many thousands of people , it is unclear whether collectively they are net creators or destroyers of employment?

Its a tricky question. I wouldn’t generalize my response for all industries. If it is for FMCG products, allowing international chains enter into the country might be fatal for the economy. If its any luxury product which has a niche, I’d be in favor of that. That niche has the buying power and is going to spend money which eventually is going abroad anyway and if someone in my country benefits from the whole process (in terms of investment and employment) I wouldn’t question business’ existence in the country.
