Me and my younger brother used to get 5 rupees/week (I remember I was 9,10 and he was 7)... Thursday used to be the payday and we would go to the shops and buy bunties (kinda like m&ms), and candies and choc flavoured Prince bisquits in those tiny fun packs that had two bisquits in em (they were those double bisquits with yummy choc cream in between so 4 in total).
We used to get money for 'star' or 'good' or 'v.good' or 'excellent' on our school notebooks as well. God bless the teacher who used to give me 'Excellent & 2 stars' quite often... made alot of money based on that :D
Eidi and money for being in the top 3 in class etc. was extra and I used to save it. Mum used to keep it for me.
