dude, please make sure u read the posts in the thread before jumping up and down.. the big deal is my question.. are desis generally opportunistic so that they forsake something they’ve been cherishing for something they perceive as more beneficial..
What kind of benefit Iqbal was getting by presenting the idea of Pakistan? He was a poet-philosopher not some kind of politician. So you can't call him opportunistic.
Firstly, nobody is responsible for what his forefather's did ( Iff they did something wrong ).
Let us concentrate on Allam Iqbal.
In your claim
then why glorify hindustan while he really wanted a separate homeland for muslims??
You are mixing two different things.
Iqbal praised hindustan, cause it was his homeland. He ws born indian and died as indian. Indians still like him and like his poetry.
He always loved india, and more he cared for Muslims of India. Do you find any verse by him where you get the idea that he started hating india ?
there was no shift in loyalties, It is called ideology. He and millions of other muslim of India wanted separate homeland. If you do no agree with this ideolgy, its your problem.
see how i bring in the concept of opportunism in desis by showing how it occurred in iqbal's khandan.. his granpa became muslim to evade punishment for his stealing.. iqbal himself vacillated between a united india and pakistan
opportunism is a known trait of man. It is not limited to desis.
If we go by your theory, Can you please state what benefits Iqbal gained for himself, by advocating a separate homeland for Muslims of Subcontinent ?
Yes there was a time when Both Allama Iqbal and the Quaid were staunch secularists and believed in a united Hindustan. It was quite obvious from Iqbal’s poetry, Sare jahaan se acha..hindustaaN hamara… Quaid was a member of the Congress and worked with the Hindus.
Then…Allama Iqbal left for England to pursue his studies. And there, on foreign soil, he discovered what Islam truly is…and thats obvious from the poetry he did ** Musalmaan ko Musalmaan kar diya Toufan e Maghrib ne…** And from there onwards his life was not the same. It was a change…that he underwent, he was not being a hypocrite. Everyone undergoes a change in life, atleast once. There is a time when one lives in Jahiliyah…and then went light of Hidayah shines on you, you start moving on the right path, and thats what happened with Allama Iqbal.
