According to some biographers/writers Hazrat Allamah Iqbal had an affair with a muslim girl from Delhi whilst they were both at Cambridge. Her name was Attiya Faizi…
Now the indian biographers on iqbal i have read -or partially read–Rafiq Zakariya and Khushwant Singh–both claim this is true.
The only pakistani biography i’ve read -in Urdu–was called Hayaat-i-Iqbal and this book although being very good and well written was more hagiography than biography! It dismissed this charge on the basis that becoz allama sahib alayhi rahmat didn’t do other things eg eat non-halal meat whilst in europe therefore it is inconceivable that he would have had an affair…this is typical of his logic…
So, although I have the utmost love and respect for allama sahib I do not ‘deify’ him as many people tend to; so, is there any other biography which people can recommend which gives a balanced view on this issue (and his life in general)…
